I dont know how the ranking system works but will Venus be able to get in to the end of year champs if she plays. they only take the first 8 i think and if venus is not playing anything until then. She may not be able to play right.

If Venus Williams wishes to play the Champs, she will be there. She's that good. With just 8 tournaments she is ranked #6 in the world, Serena number three.

Go to wtatour.com - check out the section for "Race points". Ranking of the player does not matter. I think Venus is just below Jennifer at #6. She is suppose to play an even in late Oct. Even if she does not - she would probably get in, (as Davenport will most likley pull out).

Venus is in based on her ranking, she could not even play from now until then, and still get in. I was never a big fan of Venus, but I really do miss her now. She was at least once a tough chick who played great. I hope we see this again. In her prime, she was loads better than Kim or Justine. Actually, I think she still is. Venus? Where are you?

I dont think Venus will play in the champs. If she didnt play Filderstadt then theres really only 25% hope of her playing!

What makes you think that she will lose all 3 round robin matches? If you've been paying any attention at all you would've noticed that the only player to consistently beat Venus is Serena. So who is she going to lose to? Capriati? She's never beaten her! Clijsters? Henin? They've only beaten her on clay! Mauresmo? Dementieva? Give me a break! You wanna know why Venus fans want her to play? It's so she can prove those like you wrong!

3 SERENA WILLIAMS 3916.00 7
4 LINDSAY DAVENPORT 2900.00 15
5 JENNIFER CAPRIATI 2469.00 15
6 VENUS WILLIAMS 2211.00 6
7 ELENA DEMENTIEVA 2059.00 23
8 AMELIE MAURESMO 2052.00 12
9 CHANDA RUBIN 1926.00 16
10 ANASTASIA MYSKINA 1749.00 19
11 AI SUGIYAMA 1652.00 20
12 VERA ZVONAREVA 1505.00 18

These are the race points as of 9/26/03. The number after the points is the number of tournaments. She is a little less than 300 points up on Rubin (#9). Is it even possible for Rubin to make up those points?

Like I said! IF Venus is at all concerned about qualifying for the Champs., she'd do whatever's neccessary(if anything) to do so.

yes, but she did commit to philadelphia according to the press release on the site.. so that means she is keeping her options open for the year end champs, in my opinion.

I hope Venus and Serena play at Year End Champs. Adding them both to the mix is essential, especially for an American tournament where the RR format is to increase the no. of attractive matches. The star power they would generate by just playing would greatly help it (in addition to Jen playing too).

What I really wana see is a Jen-Venus matchup and Elena D-Clijsters matchup, so fingers crossed for the end of the year! :)
