An interesting thing occurred in tennis recently. Heather Watson, part of the LTA Elite Support Program, decided to team up with Varvara Gracheva for WTA125 Paris after playing vs her in Madrid recently.

I'm afraid of what action the LTA is going to take against Heather Watson here. They were the masterminds behind Wimbledon's player ban, and now have to deal with one of their own athletes going against their choice and partnering up with a player from a banned country. Will they not allow her to play in Wimbledon? Or just remove her from the LTA Elite Support program? Or will they just overlook it and hope neither Putin nor the British government finds out about it? I'm just wondering what the LTA would do in this case..
The LTA is not behind the Wimbledon player ban. Wimbledon is run by AELTC, which is an entirely separate organisation, though it has shared many personnel over the years. The Slams are entirely independent entities, not connected to the WTA, the ATP, the ITF or the tennis federation or association in their country. When I say "independent" or "not connected', obviously they communicate. But they are not beholden to anyone, including the other Slams, basically because they make so much money they don't need anyone else.

Actually, it was presented as a shared / uniform decision by Wimbledon and the LTA.

Furthermore, the Lawn Tennis Association has also banned Russian or Belarusian players from competing in other British grass-court tournaments at Eastbourne, Nottingham, Queen鈥檚 Club and Birmingham. Wimbledon can't do that - these tournaments are in the hands of the LTA.

You wrote that the LTA "were the masterminds behind the Wimbledon ban." This is clearly wrong, as the LTA has no say whatsoever in the operations of Wimbledon. The ban is the idea of the current government, not the LTA.
Wrong again.

Both are strong doubles players, that could eventually even threaten the title in this tournament. Imagine Heather Watson helping Gracheva win a WTA125 doubles title. Would the LTA share the news about the title win? Would they fear Putin using it as propaganda?

Show me where Wimbledon has said they are banning Russians/ Belarusians for a tournament outside the UK
Please don鈥檛 create a story when there鈥檚 none
Be realistic and don鈥檛 drive your own propaganda

If the UK wishes to take the high ground then the question remains why it allows its Fed Cup players play with Russians/Belarusians on tour. If the UK is taking such a high and might position on this issue this should be clearly addressed. Why can a British player potentially win a doubles event with a Russian when the UK authorities are seeking Russian players unfit to play in the UK due to current events.

What kind of troll thread is this actually? A ban against Russians is not currently in effect at French tournaments, and the whole premise of the OP is (deliberately) irrelevant.

8000 posts in 4 months, my ass. Congratulations on how many people here who you managed to fool.

and of course TF's resident Sergey Lavrov had to chime in on this trolling job as well.

So are "stateless" players going to be allowed in Wimbledon, Nottingham, Eastbourne, Birmingham, etc. too? I think they don't care whether a player would sign up under a neutral flag or under Russia/Belarus, I think they just care about whatever country is listed on their passport. Otherwise the players would be able to compete just like they do in Rome and RG (and also Paris 125), under a neutral flag.

In any case, they lost 2-6 4-6 so no propaganda is going to be used in Russia. Their opponents are very low-ranked players who played together for the first time, that's a really terrible loss unless Heather decided to tank the match on purpose (or maybe she simply isn't as good anymore as she once was).

Time to move on from here!

I wanted to read the para but I recently lost my specs in a drunken stupor.
