We all know that Serena had a surgery, Venus is still injured, Lindsay plans to have a surgery, Jenn has a weird schedule with so far just China announced …

If you consider that these players form the top8 in the world next to the Belgians, is there a desaster coming up that the tierI and tierII events in Leipzig, Moscow, Filderstadt, Zurich and Linz won´t live up to their potential and have the weakest fields regarding the top8 in ages ?

It´s not that I don´t think Kim&Justine cannot headline fields, but if you think of the depth of a draw, this isn´t the best perspective if just the depth in the top11-20 guarantees good quarterfinals. We all want the top8 to meet more often, don´t we !?

So far, just Kim and Justine play Leipzig, just Venus and Amelie play Moscow (Lindsay surgery) where normally 7 out of the top10 are FORCED to play by the WTA. With Lindsay and Serena out for Filderstadt and the fact that Jenn skips Zurich according to the news, we´ve just Kim, Justine, Amelie and PROBABLY Venus in Germany, then next up, it´s a fact, yes, that both Williams are announced for Zurich, but don´t we think Serena is to skip it all till Advanta ? And who knows what´s about to happen with all these draws if the Belgians finally DO need some rest TOO ?!

I think it´s a sad fact that this fall won´t have the draw depth we had in the past ?!

Traditionally it's always been harder to get the women (or men) to play after the US Open. This is when you see lots of tanking, lots of weird upsets, and many withdrawals.

Lets face it-the 4 events that count are over after the US, and those are the ones the top women gun for. The slow decline of the women's masters (what is it now-the Home Depot Chms-yea THAT sounds important  ) only makes it worse.

I would rather say that it´s the US problem again.

If the US girls come out strong after the US Open and form most of the elite top10, it´s a fact that they decide to rest after "their" Grand Slam.

As the fall season is in Europe, the Europeans of course are willing to play in front of home crowds.

Imagine what would be if Amelie would be top5 and Myskina, Hantuchova and Maleeva would be top10, then this topic would not make sense. In each of the 4-5 events in Europe, the named players would play just because of short ways and home crowds.

For the Americans, each event in Europe is stress. It´s cold, unknown languages+countries, indoor instead of outdoor. We all know that there are a number of girls like Maleeva around that LOVE playing indoors and will demonstrate their willingness soon and for a Capriati or Davenport or even Venus Williams the season is just too long to "enjoy" this kind of tennis.

If you think of Seles in the past, she started her Masters prep in Philly. Might be the same with Jenn apart from the fact that she might take the plane for Stuttgart, an event she definetly loves to play.
