After viewing this week's exo against Seles, I asked myself will Anna ever reach the top 10 again. It was just 1999 when Anna was ranked on a par with Venus. Remember the buildup at Wimbie. It was considered an even match! Since that time Venus has 4 slams and Anna has not won even one tournie. Now she is coming back after missing 7 months due to a foot injury. Will she ever enter the top 10 again?

I think so. I hope so. But only if significant changes are made. Like adding a good coach to her team. And playing a smart schedule, instead of an over crowded schedule, where she runs from one tournament to the next. But to be fair, I can't see Anna being able to beat Clijsters, Capriati, Henin and the Williams sisters. They are much too strong for her. Well, except for Justine, that is. But Henin makes up for her lightweight physique by ripping her groundies all over the place. Top ten is possible. But will Anna stay healthy long enough to make a real run at the top ten? That is the question. I hope Anna has the right answer. Udachi Anna!

I think she will. Expecting her to beat Monca after playing only a handful of matches in the last six months was a big ask.

When she starts on the tour again in a regular fashion I think she will begin to make great progress. However, it's become quite clear that it will take time.

No. BUt #12 - #18 seems reasonable.

I agree with you Volcana, she should make it into the top 20. But top ten? This begs another question, who will she replace if she does make it?

If she plays her *ss off ala Sandrine , Dokice etc and beat some of the big names along the way she stands a chance, then again I have some doubts considering a lot has happened since she was ranked #8...

I think Anna can reach the top 10 again, she just needs to get back on track. I hope she can stay healthy for a full year because she's got so much potential. A year ago she seemed on track to make the next step forward, as she has done a couple times only to be sidetracked with some ailment. I hope she will get it together.

yes of course she will. im a very very firm believe in anna. and its one of the things im so afraid of, that is, she will never live up to her potential. i can cry when i think about this, and i kid you not. she would be one of the biggest if not the biggest underachiever in history of sports i think if she never goes onto undeniable/refuted greatness.

I don't think anyone can truly judge whether or not Anna will make it back into the top ten based on her performance at this exho. True, she did not play well at all, but she seemed out of sorts from the time the first ball was struck. Whether she really didn't want to be there, she was dealing with a personal issue or she was really nervous to be competing against Monica Seles; Anna played terrible tennis, which is unlike her in an exho.

Can Anna make it back to the top ten? That depends on a lot of factors: health, drive and desire and the quality of tennis coming from the current top ten. Anna is facing a difficult task here. Here current ranking means that she will face a top seeded player earlier on in the big tournaments and her record against the top players is not that great. She is 0-6 against the Williams sisters. 1-11 against Hingis. 3-7 against Davenport. 1-4 against Seles. She is 2-1 against Capriati, but those are matches before Capriati's current form. Against the young players, Anna has not faired much better. She is 0-2 against Dokic. 1-2 against Clijsters and 0-2 against Henin. If Anna was, in fact, intimidated or uncertain of how to play Seles, then she is indeed, in trouble for next year. Honestly, I think that Anna fans should be happy with good results and if Anna can make it into the top twenty that would be great. But next year should be viewed as a rebuilding year, so fans should keep their expectations low and not expect Anna to win a big title or slam. She needs to remain healthy, find a coach and trainer to work on her game and play smaller tournaments to gain ranking points and work her way back into playing shape. I wish Anna and Anna fans luck next year. It will be a difficult road back to the top.

She will definitely make it back to the top 10, although it may not be next year, because it will be a struggle, but I'm hoping that she can get in the top 20 and win a title next year, if she achieves that, then that's a real successful year in my eyes. I think by the time that the middle of 2003 comes around, she will definitely be back in the top 10.

Anna can make it back into the top and beyond if she tries. She has a lot of physical talent. I am just not sure of the drive. Why do all the work when you reap all the rewards for just looking good???

I think she can do it. Maybe not this year, but 2003. It all depends on whether or not she stays injury-free.
