When Chanda came back from her injury in May last year, she looked like she was finally going to fulfill her potential. She had big wins over great players, and didn't have any 'bad' losses. I even thought that a Slam wasn't out of the question for her. Then, after having a good chance to beat Venus at the US'Open, she had an average indoor season and this year she hasn't performed at the same level.

Today, she lost to Vento-Kabchi in the 1st round. Was it because of her injury/the wind/Vento's good play?. Or did Chanda look too far ahead in the draw?.

Did the loss to Venus affected her more than it seemed at the time? Her loss to Myskina at Australia was dissapointing, her loss to Farina at Wimbledon was VERY dissapoiting, and today's loss just makes it worse.
What is going wrong with her?

I wouldn't necessarily say that Chanda has regressed. Yes, her performance at Wimbledon was a disappointment, but she has had some very good results this year.

In Australia, she made the fourth round and lost in a three setter to Myskina, who is a good Russian player ranked in the top ten. She made it to two tier 1 semifinals losing only to Clijsters and Capriati. She repeated as the Eastbourne champion and won Madrid. She also made the quarterfinals of Adidas, Pacific Life Open (IW), French Open and Stanford. Those are good consistent results across a seven month span. Chanda was unable to defend her LA title due to injury and has not played a match since Stanford. As a rule, Chanda is typically slow to recover from injury timeouts, so her loss wasn't a real surprise to me.

So looking at her record, I wouldn't say she has regressed at all. Yes, she has had some disappointments this year, but that is to be expected during a long tennis season.

I certainly agree with both of you but I believe it was because of the WIND and her INJURY! Chanda is a HORRIBLE wind player and it takes time to recover. She only had about 2-3 weeks to recover. To say that she has had a disappointing year is not reasonable at all! She has won 2 tournaments this year and I believe she will win another at the Wismilak International next week in Bali. Chanda pays to much attention in the fact that she can beat the Williams Sisters. She has already proved that she can and its time for her to move on.

I really believe Rubin will have a good year next year. I think all three of those disappointing loses to Elia, Myskina, Kabchi will smarten her up. Look for Rubin to do well in 2004!

GO RUBIN~!~~!

Well, before 2002 I would considered this to be a good year for her, but after 2002 I was expecting her to reach new heights, and consistenly challenge the top players. I don't think she has been playing as well as last year, either, but that she has taken advantage of a higher ranking.

I think it's pressure; Chanda was expected to do well this year and perhaps even challenge the top 4-5 players. I think the pressure got to her, though. She lost to Myskina in Australia, who is a player Chanda could easily overpower. She then lost early at both Wimbledon and the U.S. Open. Those surfaces should be good for her, but she has underperformed.

I don't see her injury as an excuse for this loss. She has been practicing for a few weeks now, and Vento isn't a player who required Chanda to play above her normal. Chanda couldn't get a ball in to save her life, and she looked tight throughout (a lot like Clijsters in the final of Roland Garros).

I think Chanda may have ups and downs but I think she's reached her potential. She's in the top 8. Today was just a fluke. However I don't think she's a better player than the ones ranked above her.
Yeah that's exactly how I see Miss Chanda also. She done good just to get back in the top 10. She always gonna have ups and downs so aint no thang bout today.
