If you are tall, then its easier to serve big, and that is an advanatage in tennis. Look at average heights of the general population and tennis players........... HELLO!!! Player who are shorter have to find different ways to win and that is not better or worse, but its interesting. Michael Chang is a good example. I wasnt a big fan, but I really respected how he developed skills that suited his physique, compensated for the fact that he was't going to get as many service winners.

Can't we just enjoy the game?! All the girls are providing really good and exciting fare for us tennis fans. It'll be exciting to see how 2004 pans out.
As for Justine and Kim's match tomorrow...I say they BOTH need to win. Let's see who actually does!

And your point being that "height is not an advantage on serve"? hmmmm..riiiiiiiiiighty-ho.......Serendy Willick said:Venus is 6'1 and her second serve still gives her problems. Lindsay is one of the tallest on the tour and I dont see her serves (nowdays) helping her at all against the belgiansJennifer is about as tall as Serena and her serve certainly isnt an overpowering weapon. Do you know how they get those serves? Its by constant tooling and improvement in that area, not because they were bigger and taller. Cheater has proven this summer that you can have a consistant serving speed with the taller players, how did she do it? By improving.

Tennis needs Henin to take the #1 away from Kim because Kim is still the Williams sisters pushover, kissing up to them and stuff (like saying Serena is still the true #1). Whereas Justine is getting right in the Williams sisters face and not really respecting them as much. If Justine's #1, V & S have to go after her because they've got something to prove against Justine (they have nothing to prove against Kim). The Williams fans know this and that's why you see some of them hating so much on Justine (or in the case of the clever Tee Rexx, spinning against her) and being luvvy-duvvy over Kim.
Kim is just telling the truth when she says V and S are the two best players. Venus and Serena have nothing to prove against Justine, Juju has to prove she can beat them consistently. Having the title of #1 means nothing to the sisters, they look at Justine for Justine and Kim for Kim or whoever they are facing. Their opponents ranking or stature means nothing and will not affect the sisters in the least.vogus said:nice thread, i didn't agree with your last one (can't remember what it was) but this one is money.

Yeah, when Lindsay was playing: serve-one groundstroke-win the point it wasn´t bad! Hey Lindsay is talented...blah blah.Deimos said:Hello! Interesting thread, arcus.
Pundits seem to be so enthralled by Justine's game (see J. McEnroe), but the reasons are often disingenuous, because:
a) The power game somehow became synonymous with a lack of a brain when the Williams sisters became so good at it. Huh?
b) Henin is a great player, no doubt about it. But the distinction people try to make is that she is successful because of her 'smart' play - as if she doesn't slug the crap out of the ball, or the other players don't use their heads.
Many people detest the Williams sisters for being two African-American sisters whipping their opponents. Typical reaction. Only a few days ago, Jan Stephenson, ex golf-pro, claimed that Asians were ruining the LPGA.
I can stuff the race card back in my pocket, but if it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it probably isn't some other animal.
course not, but in the long run life might end up being better for her if she has to go back to trying to win slams rather than dealing with all this "should she be or shouldnt be No 1" crap all the time.Experimentee said:I dont thikn Kim wants Henin to win just bc she knows she isnt a worthy number 1![]()
