Who will be the surprising 1st-time GS semifinalist at RG?

Roland Garros has given us a lot of surprising SF line-ups recently. With the exception of 2018, there has been a GS SF debutant at French Open every year since 2014.
So, who's going to be the one this year? Who has the best shot?

Here's a list of players who reached their first GS SF recently at Roland Garros:
2022 - 3x (Gauff, Kasatkina, Trevisan)
2021 - 4x (Krejčíková, Sakkari, Pavlyuchenkova, Zidansek)
2020 - 2x (Świątek, Podoroska)
2019 - 3x (Barty, Anisimova, Vondroušová)
2018 - none
2017 - 1x (Ostapenko)
2016 - 1x (Bertens)
2015 - 1x (Bacsinszky)
2014 - 1x (Petkovic)

With the exception of those who would have to face Iga (assuming she is fit), none of those players making the last 4 here would be a surprise.

I expect the big 3 to make the semis. So it will be Pegula, Bencic or Potapova from that quarter

Pegula ? :spitrofl:
If she can't even make it to a poll though, making a SF seems tough :oh:.

Begu maybe, but i m note sure she can play well for 2 consecutive weeks

Or someone super random such as Blinkova

Possibly we won't have it. But I voted for Begu.

On paper, to me, only Cirstea, Samsonova, and Pegula make sense.
BHM, Begu, Pegula or Zheng. I'd like BHM the most from here.
Bencic.
Grabher Gracheva or Blinkova

Bencic had a GS semis, USO.

Samsonova has had a measly clay season, had only poor results since February, and never went past R16 at slams, so on paper she is an outsider in this large group in the poll.
waits to see where the big dangerous Q's are placed and there are more than a few of them.. for one of them could if they get one of the prime slots.. getting Elena cold out of the gate... or Aryna on the rebound of what might be tough 1R match she could come out flat afterwards on.. if she even wins it...
I doubt it will happen for Osorio, but it would be fascinating to see a LL go on a big run. IIRC the best result from an LL in history was a lone QF at the US Open in the early 90s, with a handful throughout history who have made the R16.

None, as the semifinals will clearly be
Swiatek-Rybakina
Ostapenko-Muchova
I voted none but if forced to select someone I think I'd probably opt for Begu also. She is in the best quarter. She is very underrated on clay and has had numerous good runs at RG and other clay 100s and so with a good draw here it isn't out of the question that if she plays at the top of her game she things could turn out well for her over the next two weeks.

Zheng did well in Rome and has doable top players in her quarter. Begu has out of form top players in hers, but I don't trust her to go all the way.
Haddad Maia and Cirstea look in good shape and neither Jabeur or Rybakina are unbeatable.
So those are my picks. I'd be very surprised if Iga loses before the SF.
