Interview with Michaella Krajicek

Dutch tennis star Michaella Krajicek is back in business. After a couple of tough years with injuries, illnesses and family problems she is back on track on the WWW Tour with some good results in the past weeks. We talked to her before the start of the big upcoming tournament in Dubai this week.

Hi Michaella, how are you doing?

I'm great, how are you? :)

I'm fine! Well, let's talk about your recent results on Tour. You made the finals of your first tournament on the WWW Tour in Cape Town, losing to Polona Hercog in that final. You also defeated Venus Williams in the semifinals there. However, Venus has been your 'angstgegner' in the past 2 tournaments, beating you in Casablanca and Cairo. What do you make of your own performance?

Yeah, Cape Town was definitely a great week for me. To make the finals in my first tournament was a dream run I couldn't have predicted beforehand. I hope to win a title as soon as possible of course but there are some tough players on tour. On my record against Venus, it's definitely frustrating to lose 2 times in a row to her after that 64 75 victory in Cape Town but you know, that's tennis. One day you win, One day you lose. I'm just going to keep working and improving my game!

What are your expectations for the upcoming week in Dubai?

I really like Dubai! There are a lot of shops so there is plenty to do off-court. The facilities are really state-of-the-art so I'm looking forward to a great week here. I hope to maintain my good form and hopefully I can go far. Thanks to my good results I have a Bye in the first round so I have some extra time to practice and work on my game.

What would point out as your weapons? What are your weaknesses?

My serve is definitely my big weapon. My older brother Richard was always known for his serve and I always wanted to have a serve just like him! Also I've worked on my forehand and it has really helped me play more aggressively. I'm still working on my fitness, but that's improving every week! It's all a process of learning from your losses and getting confidence from your wins! :)

What is your favourite surface?

Grass for sure! I like the speed, and grass suits my game well! My serve is a big plus on grass and I can really play aggressive! Thats the reason why I don't like clay. It's holding back my serve and because my fitness is still a point I need to work on it doesn't suit me because the points are long. Because I like to finish the points quickly, grass suits me the best. I can play well on hardcourt too though :)

Final question, are ready to get onto the court here in Dubai?

Yeah, I'm really excited to play here in Dubai and to get to meet up with the top players! It will be a good test to see where I am right now as a tennis player and of course I hope to do well! :D

Alright, good luck Michaella and hopefully we'll speak again soon! :)

Thank you! Bye! :)
