We all know that Maria, Serena, Venus, Kim (and now Li?) are huge draws for crowds and have a lot of star power. But just below them seem to be the 5 players listed in the poll. Ana of a few years ago probably would have won this poll hands down and looked like she could become a huge household name. Obviously things happened in her career and that wasn't necessarily the case, but in my opinion she is still the biggest name to the general public. But do you agree?

You could pretty much make a case for all 5 girls.

She had less than stellar results for years and she keeps on getting the primetime treatment.
Hugely popular everywhere, most specifically in Australia and Indian Wells.

1. Caro
2. Ana
3. Vika
4. Petra/Jelena

Over here, in India, Ana, Caro and even JJ(was) are quite famous. Vika is gaining popularity and Petra too.

I can really only speak from my American perspective..

In her prime, the answer would definitely be Ana. However, I think she has been quickly forgotten in the last 2-3 years and no longer has much star power here.

I think the answer right now is Azarenka (I might be slightly biased). Casual sports fans are more likely to know Vika right now than any of the others due to her dismantling of Maria in the AO final and great start to the year. She also plays a bit of a villain role which gives her more star power.

Petra is definitely the least well-known in the U.S. despite winning Wimbledon. I think it's because of a) her shy personality and b) her complete lack of success on American soil.

And I suspect a lot more people know about Azarenka thanks to her domination at the start of the year.

As for Caro, she would be a nobody if not for the endless debate about her #1 status and her relationship with Rory.

Hopefully, Petra will eventually become a household name because of her accomplishments.

I think it's tied between Caroline and Ana... A year ago defo Caroline but now time has changed and Ana has always been very popular (in Australia for example), so I'd say Ana.

Here in Britain, I'd say Wozniacki is the only one of them who is actually known by many. She has three different commercials running around the clock too. Around the world, I'd still give it to Ana, which is funny considering she's done absolutely nothing in how long?! :lol:

I wouldn't associate being well known directly with star power. Azarenka has many many detractors who don't like her attitude, grunting, etc. I typically associate star power with stuff that will actively get people to root for the person, show up to matches, buy memorabilia, etc. And even after her last few years, I think Ana still has the most star power of the people on that list.

Honestly, if Wozniacki had just won a slam, she would probably win on the star power front, as she's likeable and pretty- but people tend to like people who win slams. Just the way of the world. :/
