I heard one of the commentators ask Tracy Austin this question during one of Justine's matches this year.

My prediction is Nadia Petrova. I think she's got all the weapons, and just needs some mental conditioning to assault the top 10.

I think Tracy predicted Zvonareva, but I personally think she's too mentally unstable.

My second prediction would be Kuznetsova, who had some impressive results this year.

What do you think?

Elena Dementieva will be the highest ranked Russian at next years U.S. Open.

Tracy actually picked Maria Sharapova at first but backtracked because Maria is under the AER and that will hinder her ranking. Then she chose Vera Zvonareva.

I don't know what people see in Petrova. Whenever I watch her, she sucks, and whenever I predict she will do well, she sucks also.

So it could be Dementieva, Zvonareva, or Kuznetsova, but I am going to pick.............[drumroll please]........ Kuznetsova.

If Petrova becomes consistent (and gets good draws at the Slams), it'll be her.

Zvonareva, to me won't continue to improve until she gets her on court antics under control. When she begins to lose, I feel like I'm watching a 5 year old who isn't getting their way. It's sad.

of course...

my lovely alyona... unless she has a complete mental/physical breakdown, i see her hovering from 7-15 until next year... i think watch out for her at the austrailian too!

if by some chance elena isnt, then i would have to say petrova [though i dont like her]... i, like most others are also tempted to pick sharapova, but i feel she wont be top fifteen until at least 1 1/2, 2 years

Well out of all the Russians that I've seen I must say Sharapova, Petrova, and Zvonareva impress me the most game wise. They seem to be technically sound on most parts of their game. However, Sharapova is too young and too inexperienced to be the highest ranked Russian one year from now, while Petrova and Zvonareva seem to get tight in close situations. That is why I think the current top two Russians of this year, Myskina and Dementieva will remain at the top of the Russian ranks, although I agree it will be very close.

Also, I think if Martina Nav. keeps working with Svetlana Kuznetsova, she will make a big jump in the rankings next year because she will be able to make up points in the beginning of the year, because she was under age restrictions during that part of the year and couldn't play a full schedule.
