I adore Venus Williams. She's the only tennis player who matters. But for purposes of this discussion, neither her presence nor that of her sister helps much. And would likely lead to off-topic arguement.

Another way to look at this is , suppose the WTA had a celebrity heptathlon event (The Jackie joner Celebrity Invitational!) for the top twenty.

Who would win?
Who would be the top five?

Here are the heptathlon events, just for yoks.

Day 1
60-meter dash
long jump
shot put
high jump

day 2

60-meter hurdle race
pole vault
1000-meter run.

Meghan Shaunnesey, I think is who you're referring to.

I almost forgot that they were doubles partners......I don´t think she´s gonna beat much people in any foot race and stuff though.

Besides the Willies in the top 10...I would say both Kim and Justine are athletic. I could easily see both of them playing other sports. Kim especially has a very athletic build.

As well I think alot of the younger russian players are pretty athletic.

Probably...I didn´t see MN or Graf play that much, but the Williamses sure are amazing. The most obvious example is Venus...the more I see the Davenports, Bovinas, Petrovas....tall girls that can barely run, the more amazing I find it that Venus despite being tall as she is can run the court better than almost everyone. In fact Venus has the BEST defense EVER imo.

With you and Knizzle around, how could we forget?

The thing with athleticism on the WTA is that, generally, players who would excel at certain things on the heptathlon list usually have significant weaknesses in others... the presence of shot put really does throw a spanner in the works. Myskina, for example, would be one of my first choices for the running events, but shot put wouldn't really be her thing.

That said:

Kim Clijsters
Meghann Shaughnessy
Anna Pistolesi
Francesca Schiavone
Ai Sugiyama

Honorable mentions to Amanda Coetzer (in her prime, she'd be near the top of the list), Ashley Harkleroad, Lina Krasnoroutskaya and Nicole Pratt.
