Where is the "generation" of '84?

These girls who are 17 going on 18 have yet to make much of an impact on the tour yet. I wonder if any will emerge this year?

Players born in 1982 include Henin, Tulyaganova, Petrova, Medina
From 1983 Clijsters, Dokic, Bedanova, hantuchova.

But many of those players first reached the top 100 as 16 year olds or at least 17 year olds.
The only two players born in 1984 who have cracked the top 100 are Lina Krasnoroutskaya and Marie-Gaine Mikaelian.

There's also Angie Widjaja who won a title at the end of last year.

What other 17/18 year olds might emerge in 2002 as bright prospects?

I edited my post because I forgot that Angie had won a title last year, even though she hasn't reached the top 100, that's pretty sensational for a 16 year old.

Eggy, when was Svetlana Kuznetsova born? 85? I'd put her on the list too

I see she's already cracked the top 200!

Also Su-Wei Hsieh, who is what? 15? 16?

I don't think Elke really belongs in the "best of..." lists. Kirsten Flipkens has more potential, IMO

All this talk of ages and years is making me feel somewhat perverted. I can remember the time when tennis players were adults, as opposed to me, a child. Now, I am the same age or older than most of them, and I dread to think what it will be like in 10, 20, 30 years time when I am still obsessed with the exploits of perky little 17 and 18-year-old girls. Do any of the older members of this board feel somewhat ashamed of their fascination? What about your partners? I'm not looking forward to getting older...
