What I heard about it

During the Queen's tourney in London, when Andy Roddick served his fastest first ball at about 240km/h, they said the sensor is placed more or less above the head of the line umpire sitting behind the player who's serving, right in the middle of the court. Basically it evaluates the speed of the ball when it's hit by the racquet, so it's placed at a reasonable height for that.
