if she wants to be TOP 10 next yr, she needs to make
up about a thousand points of difference....
TOP 20 is about 600 points...
most of the former #1 is already firmly in TOP 10 at 17
will she do it by the time she hit adult?

When Elena pisses her off tommorow, and she slaps her across the face.

Erm, I think she can do it by the time she is 18.

i think she could do it next year as long as she does well at the slams. if she doesn't do well in the slams then i don't think she has a chance.

it is top 10, it's not like #1 or anything. hantuchova did it last year with a 3rd round at AO, 4th round at RG then QF's at the other 2 slams and won indian wells. she also did quite well in the indoor season but she was already in the top 10 before the indoor season i believe. so really all it takes is a couple of good results at the slams and then decent results at the others slams and a a couple of other good big tournaments.

Well, as far as I know, maria's next goal is to be at least top 33 before Aussie Open '04 arrives so that she can be seeded for the first time in her 5th grand slam appearance. That's why she is scheduled to play 3 upcoming low-level tier tournaments plus this week to grab as many as points as she can.

As well as she's trying to win a first WTA title this year and that's why she chose to play lower-level tier tournaments. She is working slowly on the way to the top. :)

When Anna was at Maria's age, she made a big mistake for not entering low-level tournaments (she was ALWAYS playing tier II or better). She could have won but that was too bad, she had too much ego... :fiery: That was her problem. It cost her in her tennis career. Her ego has gone down when she finally entered into tier III or lower tournaments. She should have done that a long time ago.

I expect Maria to be in the top 20 easily next year. Being in the top 10 is tough to call at this moment. Otherwise she would exceed my expectations for next year.

actually Anna didnt make a big mistake back then...
look Serena didnt win a title in 97/98....
she is still fine playing higher tier events,
when you are a star and on the GE list,
you are not supposed to play low tiers

If everything was played on grass, Maria would be top 10 weeks ago. :)

But it's not... so you will have to wait until she wins Wimbledon next year ;)

Speaking of top 10, I think Nadya could be top 10 before the tour Championships if she stays healthy. :yeah:

Um..never? Nah, I don't like her that much but she's got what it takes. Next 2 to 3 years or so.

Maria has a losing record since she took those football photos.
And let's not even discuss the Chargers.
