I love Alice Marble and admire many of the other players mentioned, but IMO, nothing can compare to what Monica experienced on April 30, 1993. She was the victim of a deliberate action of a crazed Grafanatic, something that amounted to a terrorist act, in my opinion. The very fact that she was able to step back on the tennis court 2 1/2 years later and continues to play and give it her best today is a true testament to her courage and will-power. She could easily have spent the rest of her life "why-me?"-ing.

Other great comebacks from injury have included Helen Wills' two glorious returns to Wimbledon in 1935 and 1938; Alice Marble's amazing rise to tennis immortality in the late-30s after her life-threatening illnesses (as accurately described by rollo); Maria Bueno's return to win Wimbledon and the U.S. Nationals again after hepatitis; Billie Jean King's numerous comebacks after umpteen knee surgery; Martina Navratilova's comeback in 1991 after orthoscopic surgery on both knees - she wasn't even sure if she'd ever walk again; Tracy Austin's sentimental return in 1993 - just to walk out on court after everything she had been through was inspiring. Etc. etc.

Hingis in 2002 hahahahaha . I belive its Monica Seles, I mean she was dominating the tour before she left winning 8 slams as a teen. Then coming back from the stabbing and winning a slam, but also she is still one of the best.

All the comebacks mentioned are impressive.

Alice Marble's comeback is certainly impressive. I'd never known her ful story before.

Evonne Goolagong's comeback was heart warming.

Billie Jean showed true grit in her comebacks.

And Monica ! I'm still upset with the chair umpire who stole the 1st set and ultimately the match in her U.S. Open final after her comeback.

Steffi Graf's comeback culminating her French Open victory was great.

I had read of Maria Bueno's comebacks, she even cameback in mid-70s to play at Wimbledon and won a couple of rounds before meeting up with Billie Jean King.

Former world #1 Darlene Hard retired from tennis in 1962, then when the open era ushered in, she decided to comeback in doubles and won the U.S. Open with Francoise Durr in 1969.

Well I am biased and I vote for Jennifer, if only because it is more personal for me.

I'd have to go with Alice Marble.

She was out of the game for years, and came back and won several GS titles. She accomplished more in her 'comeback' than Monica or Jenn. So that has to be the greatest one.
