Well now that the end rankings are out could someone please give me an assumption on how the draw will look for OZ 2002? For instance since Hingis is ranked #4 will she face Venus or Serena in an quarterfinal? Can u please, whoever you are give me an a EXAMPLE draw for at least the top 10?

Martina can't play Venus until final now as #3 and #4 are in diff halves.

Serena being #6 seed can play any of top 4 in QF.

Seeds 1/2 in diff halves
3/4 diff halves
5-8 , two each in diff halves by random.

thats a little bit complicated as lots of diff placings in draw may happen , all thanx to the AUS OPEN computer draw.
I take it Jelena Dokic won't play.

rd 16
1-Lindsay Davenport v 16-Amanda Coetzer
7-Justine Henin v 10-Sandrine Testud
3-Venus Williams v 14-Magdalena Maleeva
6-Serena Williams v 11-Meghann Shaughnessy

5-Kim Clijsters v 12-Silvia Farina Elia
4-Martina Hingis v 13-Elena Dementieva
8-Amelie Mauresmo v 9-Monica Seles
2-Jennifer Capriati v 15-Arantxa Sanchez Vicario

these should be top 16 seeds after withdrawl of Dokic , retirements of Tauziat/Huber

They've done in last two slams Top 2 seeds v either 7/8 in QF
and #3/4 v either 5/6 in QF.

#13-16 seeds can go anywhere in top 4 seeds 4th rd match ups
seeds 9-12 in any place in seeds 5-8 rd of 16.

Its all a bit random so who knows

Egg, I am not sure if you are completely right.

Look at Wimbledon's projected quarterfinals:

Hingis (1) vs. Henin (8)
Capriati (4) vs. S. Williams (5)
Davenport (3) vs. Clijsters (7) !
V. Williams (2) vs. Mauresmo (6) !

So in Wimbledon the seeds 1-4 were randomly combined with seeds 5-8.

However, your system fits at the Us Open. I don't know if it's coincidence or not.

Doesn't the ITF have any official rule for that ? Or can the Slams decide themselves how to do this ?

There really should be rules governing these draws. Why the hell can't we find them anywhere?

TBE's theory of 1/2 v 7/8 and 3/4 v 5/6 is just like the men's side. Their rules are written down- the WTA should do the same.
