Earthcrystal - wow! What a match to be introduced to the Sport!!!! It's actually available on video now (if you want to relive the memories) at: http://www.users.bigpond.com/tennisvideos1/

My first match I saw live was Evert v Goolagong in the Aussie (or NSW) Open in the early 80s. Goolagong was coming back from injury and got wiped. Still, it was great to see them playing live and it certainly boosted my interest in the sport. THe oldest match I have on video is the 1952 Wimbledon Final when Maureen Connolly won her first title!

1996 French Open final
Steffi beat Arantxa 10-8 in the third. My mom was watching and I was pulling for Arantxa. In 1999 I saw a bit of that match again during a rain delay (I think before the Hingis-Graf match....ahhh)

OMG I just realized that those two are retired! SOB

I didn't start following tennis though until almost a year later, when Hingis beat Schultz-McCarthy in 3 sets and Brenda was bad-mouthing Martina in an interview! That got me hooked, even though NBC skipped the entire second set and half of the third. I wanted to see this new #1 who nobody liked get beaten. After the 1997 French Open final, I was hooked....

Evert d. Navratilova 2-6, 6-3, 6-3

What was I smoking when I wrote that? :confused:

The first match I really saw was the '85 US Open final where Hana d. Nav'lova 7-6, 1-6, 7-6.

This year,, it was the doubles final at AO
between Daniela/Arantxa vs Anna/Martina.

I loved the second set especially how Arantxa outsmarted Anna and Martina with her lobs.

Then the next was the finals between Martina and Jenn. I was rooting for J. Cap cause I didn't like Martina back then and I love a person who can make a great comeback.

Yeah, real sad, Arantxa immedietly became my favorite after watching her in the doubles match (then reading her bio and articles about her).

So sad because I only became a tennis fan this year and my favorite decides to retire the same year. ;-;

I can't remember which tournament it was but it was I think in 1994. It was Arantxa's match. I had nothing to do, was really bored, and starting watching TV. I saw Arantxa and I thought: "This girl has nice smile". This smile........ :D

OMG how long ago it was.
