What they need to do right now:

Send Kim, Amelie, Lindsay, and Paola home and tell them they are done for the day. Don't make them sit uncomfortably on their asses. Put the two 4th round women's matches as first priority for when the rain stops. Let all the Men's players leave, but tell a couple of them they will be called back to the stadium as soon as the rain stops. They'll have lots of time to get there while the courts are being dried and the ladies matches are being finished. Maybe keep the men for one match around, in case Ai goes down in 2 sets.

Don't make all the players sit around for nothing.

Player's comfort is not a priority at this point. Getting 20% more play at expense of players being 80% less comfortable will be considered totally worth.
They could have gotten more than 20% more play had they had covers.

I agree with disposable, don't let the players hang around there any longer.

"Could" requires effort and money. Making players be in a player's lodge for whole day is free of charge and effort.
I agree with ys on this they are trying to get as many matches finished as possible. They will keep them all around.

Jen and Justine though have a great advantage at this point. They don't have to sit around waiting.

Rain! Rain! please go away!
I agree. And since that bookmaker with the permanent ad atop every page obviously isn't taking in the "action" on match results it was counting on, it can offer odds on how many matches, sets, even games will be completed on a given day.
Also something to remember - this is their job. If they send them home and there is a weather break - they won't be able to get the matches in. This is one of the things that sucks about rain delays, but it is all part of the sport. If you can hoist a trophy and proclaim to be a champion, you can play video games, read books, and work out at a gym until they call your # :)
It looks like players quite enjoy themselves..

From Mary Pierce interview:

Q. How have you spent your rain delays? Have you found any quality diversions?

MARY PIERCE: Yeah, reading, listening to music, getting treatment on various little areas. Sometimes it's kind of crazy with a lot of girls here.
I know it sucks as a top player or any player for that matter (hence Venus and Serena waiting all day and night back in 2000) but the players have got to do it.

I don't feel that bad for them as they are rich and are sitting around doing nothing. What a life huh?:)

I'm not talking about jeapordizing matches. I'm talking about when the rain stops deciding who needs to be playing and don't have the rest of the field hanging around for nothing.
what they need to do is use their brains. Something that is not likely to happen.

They can't do anything to stop the rain. They can only lament to not have a retractable roof since it can't be fixed now.

What about using some common sense?

They don't put covers because they look ugly. Get a fucking clue!, nobody cares if it looks ugly, I don't care why they didn't use them before get the damn covers now.

go and get a cover in two layers, the external layer is water proof, the layers that goes on the court is absorvent, like a diaper, guess what? when the rain does stop they can uncover the court and voila, play not have 200 people on their knees with towels

why on earth does play have to begin at 11?, if the forecast says it's not going to rain at 9, get the damn match played at 9

Third, there are possible more idiotic ways of scheduling, but I can't imagine one. Get the matches that are behind schedule first!!!, is that so difficult to understand?

I guess this guy, Brian whatever was chosen because of charme, or he has friends, obviously thinking is not his strong point.

True! After the 2 stressful days I've just had at work making peanuts, I really for sorry for these players sitting around during a rain delay. ;)
Brian, Brian, he's our man! If he can't screw it up, no one can! :D
