I don't think it has anything to do with injuries.

I think it has to do with the fact that there is a raging pandemic in the United States. Barty and Osaka have backed out, too.

Osaka is playing the U.S.Open, she's taken a wildcard for the lead up event in New York, The Western & Southern Open I believe.

Well we can all agree all this silence from her camp, tennis canada, and canadian media in general is very intriguing.

This silence is absolutely normal. Canada is under lock-down, they have just extended the travel ban until August 31.

Assuming a bubble is possible at the US Open venue, Andreescu has the luxury of being able to get to NYC by car in a single day, or a fairly cheap private flight. It's much easier for her to arrange for a travel 'bubble' than for players coming from Europe/Australia.

I don't see why she wouldn't play the USO. She's the defending champion, and she's likely to do well there. Also with Madrid in doubt, the tournament is still a question mark. Focusing on RG might make sense points-wise, but again, there's no evidence she will be a contender there. Someone like Halep has been practicing on clay for months and is just waiting in the wings there to win it (and she's also made 3 finals at RG... Andreescu has won 1 MD match there... lol).

So it's likely she's skipping Cincy so she won't pick up an injury. Or, she's injured again. Though, that would have been 10 whole months for her to recover -- I can't see how she's still injured.

I don't see what she has to gain from playing the US Open..she's so injury prone and needs all the rest she can get to get a full season in...in addition, the pandemic is getting worst, so why risk it??...she doesn't need money, she is not going to gain any points playing the US Open and she won't lose any either...it's basically a signal to her to not bother, so why bother????...she has literally nothing to gain other than maybe another title and risking her health or getting another injury

Bianca needs more people from her team with her than the bubble will allow. Her coach, physio, physical trainer, practice partner and ideally her parents and dog Coco LOL.
The USO will be a nightmare, and she has more to gain if she gambles on RG. The bubble there will hopefully allow more people on any player's team. I think the number of people a player could be allowed to bring along should depend on the ranking. Like, Top10=5 people, Top20=4 people, Top50=3, and 2 for the rest of the field.

or they could do: Top 8 seeds=4 people, Rest of the seeds=3 people, Rest of the field=2 people. Anyhow those ranked above Top50 usually have a small team.

Terrible idea. What next? Shall we give the top players a couple of free games as well so they start their matches 2-0 up? Or maybe they can have a few extra challenges? Or perhaps the top 10 should have more toilet breaks.

Think about this. Rules can never be made that give a clear transparent advantage to higher ranked players over the rest of the field. That goes against everything sports is supposed to stand for.

She has also nothing to gain at the French Open besides a title ...

I've always said this, she's a big girl. She needs to trim down. Of course she will never be pencil thin nor do we want that. She is thick, just accept it and use it to her advantage. But too much weight and it is very difficult on the ligaments. She reminds me of Zion Williamson. Insane talent but too much weight.

I wonder if she'll have a del Potro like career
I sure hope she can manage some healthy years but so far it is trending this way

She's too fat for a Romanian.
Well that is another way of putting it, but I agree. She's gotta drop some weight, she needs a nutritionist, it is really not that tough

I don't agree. Top players have a big team and may not come if they can't bring enough people. Top 100 players have a very small team anyway and it's not a disaster if they don't wanna come to NY or RG

and I want her to prove she's good on clay
We all know she's good on hard
Both events are too close in time, she should only play one IMO

Novak Djokovic would agree with you. No one else who valued fairness however would share that view.

You can't pander to the top players in this way. It is completely unfair to the field and would, quite rightly, lead to a major rebellion.

Players should only play if it's safe...US is probably the most unsafe right now...it's really not worth it going to the US right now unless you are already there or unless you have something to gain...

The comparison to Zion is intriguing. I think several people have drawn comparisons between her physique and Clijsters', but during Clijsters' 2002-2005 peak she was more toned than Andreescu is now. Obviously, we're not Bianca herself, or her coach, or doctor, but I do suspect losing a little weight could help her joints. But she also plays a very physical game, so perhaps this is the price she has to pay. Who knows?

I guess the logic makes sense for her and her team, but she's proven she's capable of winning everything on NA HC and would be one of the favorites for the title again. RG will feature several clay specialists and she's not proven herself to be a commodity on clay yet, so there's a greater element of risk involved there.

It's also unfair that a Top 100 player doesn't have to cut anybody from her team of 2 while a Top10 has to cut some useful people that she was used to count on for 20 years at every events. Big disadvantage to the top players. Meaning there could be a record number of upsets I guess.
