She refers to the entourage surrounding players, the more disreputable elements who want to cling on to someone's coat-tails and try and sponge money and fame off the player's success in tennis. You know, agents, unwanted advisors, the sort of people who insist they know what's good for you when they really just want a piece of you financially.

I've never heard "hangers on" referring to anyone with a professional job. Agents, business managers, personal assistants, prostitutes, etc. belong there. Now, whores are a different matter.
