How are you scoring tiebreakers? just curious

.john. told me that I should use points difference ... for example ... one player have 8 points and another one has 6 points in one game. That's mean two points difference and john. said to me to do 7-2 = 5. This tiebreak would be 7-6(5). I hope it's understandable.
