I thought the reason South Africa didnt play Hopman Cup was cos Ferreira had retired...but he played (and lost) in Adelaide this week...does anyone know if he changed his mind, or if in fact he is retiring fairly soon?

Any info would be appreciated

p.s- I have no idea why I want to know this...it's amazing the things u think of posting when u are in la-la land

I never heard about Wayne retiring, but I thought Cedric Pioline was retiring. (I saw his name in a draw somewhere) Farina Elia too.

What's going on Iva's#1Fan?? We need to know!.

Magnus Gustaffson retired though. I heard that from his own mouth.

Maybe tennis players are a very fickle bunch. We'll probably see Steffi Graf in the draw for Wimbledon. lol

lol, was that Ivan Lendl I saw in the Sydney drawsheets?

hehe, actually I don't know why, but I'm fairly positive I heard somewhere that he was retiring, which is why South Africa didnt participate in Hopman Cup (cos they always get invited)...hmmm, I dunno, maybe I was on like some huge acid trip or something? Anyway, he obviously hasn't so to me.

Yeah I remember someone said Farina was retiring but since she had her best ever year, she decided to continue

I didnt know that about Pioline! I hope it's not true, he can still go another year I think

lol, come to think of it, I can't remember where I heard about Pioline. I'm sure I heard he was quitting though. I'm starting to question my own sanity. I'm thick anyway, so it didn't take very long.

Yes, it was Llendl's name you saw. I saw it too.

I'm glad Farina is staying on the tour. She really has done well lately.

Come on ATP fans. We need to know what's the score with these retirements.

Well Pioline thought about retiring at the end of next year but after the Davis cup final he said he was too happy to think about retiring and that he wanted to retire after having a better year than 2001.

Amanda Coetzer said that Wayne just plain didn't want to play Hopman Cup this year. I can imagine how playing the same event 7 years in a row can get boring. Inkyfan (I think it was Inkyfan) said that she thought it was because Wayne was retiring that he didn't want to play the event. Amanda was fairly pissed (well, Amanda's version of being as incredibly pissed as Amanda Could be) because she wanted to play again this year.
