How did Ons Jabeur, a Tunisian from a small country with not much tennis culture, a no longer young 27-year-old, a middling player who has yet to win a slam or Olympics medal for her country, have 338 thousand followers on Instagram?

Asking this for Krejcikova.

I don't think it's just nationality related...Ons is known for her exciting game which helps in attract some casuals.

How did Emma amass over 2M followers on IG with only one slam title? How did Efremova amass 31K followers on IG at age 12 not even allowed to play junior tour yet. How did Coco amass over 700K followers with only 2 WTA 250 titles? 😀😀

Acting like IG followers is some kind of measurement of human greatness...
The most probable outcome here is that both Jabeur and Krejcikova don't give a single fuck about this.

She must be a huge star in Tunisia, who aren't normally known for their sporting prowess.
internationally true but in africa tunisia is very famous for sport
tunisia is voleyball and basketball african champ
in soccer made the semi-final in the last african cup.
in the olympic we are one of the rare african countries who wins medals specially in the last few years with athlete like mellouli then hafnaoui in swiming habiba ghribi in running and another one in taekwondo

ons was very popular in tunisia since she won the french open junior. they surname her the minister of happiness. and yes people in tunisia watch tennis a lot !! specially the french open since it is the only tournament that they can watch without paying.
we don't have tennis culture ok but we have ITF tournament weekly played in tunisia. no WTA because nobody want to pay for a tournament here. the country is a mess economically
we have lot of talent but they are not financially supported or they don't have the experience needed that could let them reach the international level.
ons struggled a lot !! to get where she is today!! she is a success story that tunisian love and need !!

This is so vain and senseless I agree. I hate when some forum members rave about their fave no of followers increasing and reporting that regularly. For all we know people and tennis players also use social medial for various purposes and in varying amount anyway.

If anything it can be a measure of your trashiness if we consider someone like Kim Kardashian.

Krejikova used to be Czech no 16 or something 😆 before last couple of years. Off course Krej would have less.

What's not to like?
1) Fun player to watch with all her variety
2) From a country/region under represented in women's tennis
3) Hot trophy husband

Women only : Serena, Mirza, Sharapova, Osaka, Bouchard and Raducanu, in that order. All have over 2 million followers.
