seeds on lower levels on ITF are not really measurement of better players...
Yes, especially with the Covid-19 rankings.
I wonder if there is more to it, if the first round actually perhaps makes it easier to get used to the surface, so having a bye is a disadvantage.
Even if each much is 50-50, we would still get a 0.038 p-value...

Most of those unseeded players were favorites according to the bookies, so it's just a coincidence that here we see most seeded players lost their matches.

Also for many/most of the seeds, this was their first match and tournament on red clay on the season, and being low ranked anyway, they would have been vulnerable to anyone with a reasonable clay game who was already grooved by winning at least one match. Generally the first event on a different surface sees a lot of upsets with lower ranked players doing well - the same happens in the grass season after clay.
