Was expecting that to be first post

 

 

I think this was Emma's first and only match on a streamed court at Auray 2014 and was the first time some of us saw her. Obviously many are better at that age, including her opponent, but not so many play quite like Emma played the last few games of the first set.

 

Doubles final from Tarbes in France, Kostyuk on the other side. All aged 13 or so - Fischer is apparently a fashion model now

What I missed here is Emma saying she was waking up at 4 pm every day (usually coming from USA / travelling east does this),a dn she says she is really bad at adjusting for jet lag taking over a week.

Jet lag does affect some allot more than others, as do time zone adjustment. Maybe she needs to do swings and stay in a time zone, no back and forth for 1 tournament (Indian wells was a 1 game trip and 8 hours TD ?).

Further confirmation on some of what your already saying about this from a sleepfoundation.org article that is well cited:

• Traveling East: Most people find that jet lag is worse when traveling east than it is when traveling west13. Jet lag differs based on the direction of travel because it’s generally easier to delay your internal clock than advance it.
• Age: A person’s age may play a role in jet lag, although studies have found mixed results. People over 60 experience circadian changes that can make it harder for them to recover from jet lag15, but some research in pilots found jet lag to be worse in younger people16.

 

I couldn't watch the interview because of the sound. I don't understand why. Romania has the fastest internet in the world after South Korea. Also Cluj-Napoca is a IT center. Twitter has perfect sound as seen below.

 

The more one talks about yet lag the worse it gets.
I used to travel quite a bit.
My own opinion is its much the same as a very late party. One simply disrupts the sleep pattern of one's body and thus some of the natural cycles of the body.
Some people do some serious physical stress to their bodies by not having a regular sleep pattern or simply not sleeping enough.
There was a study that the reduction of oxygen at high altitude may contribute to a feeling not being well.
In years gone by the airplanes were not fully pressurized. I think even in modern planes it is difficult to fully pressurize planes.

Thanks! These matches were on YouTube (at least in the US), but it's great to watch them with Navratilova's commentary as well.

 

She looked like she was suffering from a chronic case of CBA* but perked up a lot when she got past the boring questions.

Did she crunch her neck while waiting for the first question?!

*can't be arsed, for those of you without teenage kids.

 

If she had looked disappointed or stressed you'll bet all those eager to say she's under pressure and comparing her situation to other players would have started going on about it. She's likely upset that she lost but will handle it outside of the media and I like this approach, otherwise you add even more unnecessary drama to this.
