Venus' stats:

10 winners / 46 UFE's

I'm watching the match and she is horrid.
Everytime she tries to go for the winner it flies high.

She's now leading 6-2 5-4 though...

well, lack of clay court prep is going to hurt venus. It will take her a while to find her rhythm...

She is lucky that Sammy is serving as horrible as she is...

She has no rhythm...she is all over the place...and that serve is SHIT...

She better hit the practice court after this match...

I think that some of you people begin to believe your own monikers...Venus is not a goddess. She hasn't played awhile and with an abdominal strain I don't imagine she's had much time to work on her serve...Did you think she'd come out like superwoman...please, she played herself into the match and as is her usual did what she had to do to win the match. Keep taking each match as it comes Venus.

she is the goddess of tennis not because of how she does or does not play but how she conducts herself on and off the court.

She did what ti took to win which is all that matters. Now hopefully she will get into a groove practice and keep on trucking.

Glenn Almighty...!!!

 Glenn and BK4Ever, you know these words could come back to "haunt" you...!!! Surely, you could care less how well Venus is playing, but the "last laugh" may be on you.

This is certainly not the "first slam" that Venus has started "slow" in and end up on "fire"; so until the last game of the last set on day seven and the winner is "proclaimed", we'll have to "wait and see"!!!

*persond thinks to himself, Glenn really didn't "learn" anything during the Australian Open, huh?...*

Persond...first of all, why the hell are you rolling your eyes at me...please dont put me in the same category as Glen...yuck

I came into this thread before I realized who started it...we know he didnt start it because he cared...

what i said about vee was completely true...anyone who thinks she played well is dillusional...

Venus usually starts out slow, but this was different...and you know it...

I'll forgive you for clumping me with Glen...u must have gotten confused...SEE MY SIG ;) :p

It certainly was a streaky match. There were only a few hints of good tennis in there.

But Venus won and that's all that matters isn't it? This is a game and you try and win each match and live another day so to speak. Since she's done that I guess she's been successful so far.

At least her score was better than the clay court specialist Justine. What do you guys expect Venus has not played in weeks, she has an abdominal muscle strain and I am sure she was being cautious playing her first match. Now, if she plays like she did today in her second match then we have need to worry.

The last time I checked she pulled out of a match in April with an abdominal strain.. Did you expect her to blow Samantha off the court?? She's rusty for crying out loud-- Opening rounds don't mean all that much---It's hard to tell anything from it. Bottom-line Venus did what she had to do to win that match

Amelie played worse. Justine played even worse. and???? I'm sure Venus will do just fine. She still won without having played any matches since her injury.

Just a reminder guys : Serena at the AO played an horrible 1st match against loit ... result : she was crowned 2003 AO CHAMPION...

My point is: the 1st match in a GS is never pretty tennis-wise ... all tennis players will tell you that they always feel tight in their 1st round match and all they want is to be over with it and move on ... so give some credit to Venus please. She hasn't played for the last 3 weeks, and her last match she retired with an injury ... common sense would tell you that it was a good win for Venus ... no matter how many UE she hit.

Now go bacxk to the practice court Venus! :)

Venus will be on and crackin like fire in her next match. She had to get the rust off. Ameile and Justine had tougher times with thier opponents and they have won clay court titles and are the huge favorites. Go Venus!!
