At least according to the US Open website

Look what you find when looking for the draw:

We will have a new Champion at the 2003 US Open. Many think Kim Clijsters or Justine Henin-Hardenne are the favorites, but you know Jennifer Capriati, Amelie Mauresmo and Lindsay Davenport will be heard from. What will the roads to glory look like for these superstars? What challengers will stand in their way?

The Australian Open website said in January that Venus nor Serena had a chance against Kim or Jennifer and that last time I checked the trophy has Serena's name on it. I posted this same paragraph yesterday under another thread questioning whether Venus will even play but it looks like she going to play (barring a late withdrawl today).

No it doesn't, but you have to admit New Champion could be interepreted the wrong, and no sign of Venus is odd.

Failing to mention the most succesful player still entered is rather stupid.

Will you agree had someone said that the trophy is going back to
the Williams. Exactly no. And what you saw at the website may be
by a Belgian person or fan of these socalled favourites.
For me as long as Venus is taking part in this tournament it is too
early to mention any of those as favourites. The records at this
US Open show that. Play warm up or not, Venus is real rock to crack
at this event.
1997---final
1998--semi-fianl
1999--semi-final
2000--win
2001--win
2002--final
Not even Serena tourches Venus at the US Open

Dear JM, you're obviously missing the point. I have never said Venus wasn't the favourite. My only point was that apparently the USO website failed to notice this.

Hmm, thats funny the folks at Wimbeldon did the same thing this year in not giving Venus much of any respect, and what did she do? She smoked everyone including the world number two on the way to the final. Considering her bombout to Lina Krasnosluskya, I wouldnt just be putting Kims name on that trophy yet  Capriati hasnt won squat in almost two years, Mauresmo hasnt done much of anything this year but talk absolute trash either. Henin is winning but can she beat the US Best playing their best on their home turf (something she hasnt done, not her fault but still hasnt done), Will Venus even be healthy? Good Luck to everyone.
