Ananova - Venus Williams refused to allow her concern about sister Serena to disturb her concentration at the Australian Open.
The Wimbledon and US Open champion opened her bid for a third successive Grand Slam victory in beating fellow American Ansley Cargill 6-2 6-2.
The win came hours after older sibling Serena, who she was seeded to meet in the semi-finals, had pulled out with an ankle injury.
"I was disappointed, just as quite a few people are probably sad to hear about Serena's condition," she said.
"But I was able to move on, and that's a good thing.
"I worry about her a lot, and if I went on the court worrying that could affect my game.
"I had a few unforced errors but I got a lot of good shots in and I feel as if I will play better and better for the rest of the tournament."
