VENUS is a goal seeker. Skill in fashion design, a college degree, winning titles, winning slams and at least reaching the #1 rank on the tour, if only a short time, are some of her targets.

Being named by the media and some players as the unofficial "best" player on tour are not as enriching as having to be able to see her name on the top rung one day when the rankings are announced.

She has said that she intends to play more events and has done that thus far this year. Having defeated Capriati all four of the times that they have played is an achievement, but she wants more slam wins and with them the top ranking.

With good performances prior to and at Roland Garros, VENUS may yet attain one of her sought after goals.

She should be playing 15 events this year.... her schedule says so!! :bounce: :bounce:

I believe she'll be number 1 if she really plays 15 events. And if she just improves on the RG performance, she'll be number 1 for sure. Go Venus!! Fulfil your dreams and be number 1!! :hearts:

Being No.1 is any professional tennis player's dream and is equally important as the GS.;)

Venus is capable but is her best good enough to reach the top ranking????

Getting to the No.1 spot is EASIER SAID THAN DONE.

Her best is certianly enough to reach the number 1 ranking.

I have no doubts about that. You'll see soon enough. ;) :p

I am not rejoicing because VENUS has not reached the no. 1 spot yet, I am merely stating an opinion and a desire.

Yes, getting to be no. 1 is easily said than done, but it is much easier to get done when you are already at the #2 spot and have the game to achieve your goal.

VENUS said that she wanted to be #1.
Cappy would have to be in a time warp not to want to get a win over VENUS.

Fact is, its a safe bet that Venus will make number one at some point, be it this year, next year or five years down the line.

She is too good, not too have her time at the top.

But Mr Rexx, you know there will people who seek to nit-pick when she does...and I don't think you'll have much room for complaint when it happens, as you've done the same with Jennifer.

Bottom line, if you make number one, whoever you are, you deserve it.

Venus will be number one, one day. So relax Mr Rexx. You can afford to be generous. :)

Being number one is like icing on the cake, but it is the cake that is what is important. The cake being the grand slams. If venus continues her winning ways she will eventually become number one, it will come, just like she has said.

As far as jen never beating venus. Yes of course she would love to beat her! Who doesn't want to win? Everyone wants to win when they go out there.

I wonder how jen and venus feel about each other: mutual respect, grudging respect, animosity, cool friendliness? When I read venus's interviews she had nothing but good things to say about jennifer. I'm not sure about jennifer's interviews, can someone fill us in?

Perhaps if I were unfamiliar with the way rankings are counted, I would want Venus to be #1. As it stands, I would be indifferent to seeing Venus at the top of the rankings. I believe the ranking system is screwy regardless of who sits at #1, including Venus. I can see how some may desire it for Venus.

Winning Slams isn't the only thing either (it may be for Venus, but not really for me).

I am happy because Venus can beat the other top players when each is at her best. There is no greater compliment that can be bestowed on a player than to be labeled the best player. That description holds whether she is ranked 1 or 100.

VENUS is her own person. She will play matches. She will win matches. She will lose matches. But, apparently VENUS will not be ignored as one of the great and more interesting players to be involved in the game.

VENUS is getting near the last rungs of the ladder of tennis accomplishments in her career. Since the beginning of her career, nearly everyone, other than her family and close friends, has been telling her what she can't do in tennis.
Everything from you'll never play well, win a match, or a tournament, or a slam or be ranked number one or be one of the best that ever played the game.

VENUS may not even want to maintain the top spot after achieving that goal because as long as she is playing at the top of her game she will probably still be the best of the top ten.

The rankings were established by the WTA to get players to play at more of the sponsored events in order to generate revenue for the tour.
The players compete in the slams because winning one or several of them is usually the first dream of the tour players and anyone else who daydreams while holding their racket.

VENUS has many dreams and goals. Being no. 1 is just one of them.

Don't worry, Queen, VENUS will overcome the Oz obstacle just as she has other obstacles in her career.
Many like you said that she would never win a slam as well.
But, thanks for feeling sorry for VENUS anyway.

I Figure That It Will Be A Battle For #1 Btween Venus, Jennifer, Lindsay, Martina And Monica This Year!I Do Not Think Anyone Will Dominate. And, Jennifer Will Likely Get At Least One Victory Over Venus This Year.
