Wtf are they there for? Be a bunch of fucking zombies who do not know how to treasure great tennis in front of them? There were BARELY any claps throughout this whole masterclass performance from Belinda. And she did not deserve that!
Casual fans don't owe Bencic anything.
They paid good money to be entertained, and they were made sad instead
(because the player they were rooting for did not win).

People act as if Osaka is great because she's 2-1 against Serena, but you know who else was? Sharapova.

Unfortunately it's not 2004 anymore, but if Serena was 15 years younger ...probably

She did get rid of him. For 2 years. I already explained that to you months ago. The week she got back with him she made the Luxembourg final.

Backpedalling. Here's what you said...

The only reason I've kept this going is the amusement at how you're incapable of admitting you're wrong. Incorrigible!
I still agree with every word in that post. I will say it again if that helps? If she beats Andreescu in the (projected) SF or wins the title, that would certainly mean I was wrong. But defeating her virtual pigeon changes exactly nothing.

It seems in all your excitement you called me out about 2-3 matches too early.

Bencic has one of the best transition stroke/approach shot in the game. She's not stellar at the net, but she can take any transition ball (low or high) and put it precisely in the corner with little hesitation.

In straightforward language, are you saying that Bencic is such an amazing player that there is no way that the team of Naomi, who is the second highest paid female tennis player in the world and clearly a better athlete than Bencic, could deconstruct Bencic's game and come up with a way for Naomi to beat her by playing to her weaknesses?

Also, a related question to understand your position better: If Patrick Mouratoglou was Naomi's coach, and she followed his advice, do you think that Naomi would have lost to Bencic the third time?
Amen to this.

Yes well done Belinda! Very good play today was the better player. Nice to see her so happy on court today. Crowd were a bit annoying with their tepid “meh” reaction to the whole thing. Come on I want BB vs bibi!!!

Apparently beating the #1 on Ashe isn't enough of a big stage, now she has to win the US Open or her dad is still not a good fit for her. Lol. Can't keep track of these moving goalposts.

You’ve selectively quoted my post. I was speaking in the context of her losing the Mallorca final.

You may have interpreted “big stage” to mean beating her pigeon in a R16 on AA. But that’s not what I meant (especially not when she has already made a GS QF). You can’t put words in my mouth.

There are posters on this forum who still say that Svitolina can’t perform on the big stage & she has made the QF or better in all slams.

I remain unconvinced that she is emotionally mature enough to win a grand slam.

Your posts are premature at best, obtuse at worst. We will find out in the coming days.

In the meantime, feel free to keep nitpicking my posts you overzealous, prissy fan boy :-D

Another win over Osaka. Can Bencic please play Osaka in every Grand Slam ?

Now I am sure that Serena will win the title :hearts:

Can’t believe this is only BB’s 2nd slam quarter-final. And 5 years since her 1st. Big moment for her.

Osaka needed this reality check. Rather than focus on participating with on court interviews with her losing opponents (really, wth is that about? Plain weird) let’s hope this loss switches her focus to 100% tennis instead, starting in Osaka.

Totally agree. Many of them are casual fans. The comments I had to hear from people around me when I went to the open this weekend. I didn't really know what they were doing there.
Spending money, which is ultimately what sustains the sport?
That's undeniable. That's not my point. My point was about tennis knowledge and how clueless many of them were with the players.

God help us. <img src="https://www.tennisforum.com/images/smilies/sobbing.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Sobbing" class="inlineimg" />

Nothing against Ash personally, but to regain #1 after that horrible flop yesterday...
It's gotten to the point where we need Halep to finish YE#1 to save the tour.
And Trump NEEDS to be re-elected to improve race relations
Was that sarcasm??? I sincerely hope so 🙄

I feel like the labor day weekend attracts more casual fans whereas the first few days of the Open (when prices are much cheaper than labor day weekend) attracts more fans who know their tennis
I've never gone to see the first rounds. I tend to go on the first weekend to see 3rd or 4th round. But the way Simona plays here, I'd rather go Monday or Tuesday from now on 🤣🤣

Naomi  USO title defence over- take some time off to regroup for the final part of the season

BB :cheer: Could be a big GS breakthrough if she can keep her head together..
Vekic next for a place in GS SF and if she wins a Wimbledon Jr Final reunion against TT or a showdown with her doppelganger in BA :eek:h:

I went there for the first 5 days this time...much more affordable tickets even for main stadium matches...grounds ticket was $60 I think...I've also had lot of good tennis related conversations with various people I came across. Never been there on the weekend though but looking at the prices for the weekend, I don't think I am ever going there during weekends. Not sure how your schedule looks like but I would say give it a try going during first week weekdays...can watch lot of good tennis for reasonable prices.
