Mariam :yeah: 11 months ago she lost in a 15k QF and now she's in USO QR2 with a chance to go all the way.

As proven countless times, 99% of players won't be able to tell you anything about the opponent's grunt since they're only focused on their own game and upcoming shot. It makes absolutely no sense to fake a grunt. Although, the way the word "fake" is thrown around here might make one think some players are born with grunts and others are faking it. Just because the grunt intensity changes between different parts in the match doesn't mean that the player is doing it on purpose, it's just whatever feels natural in that moment.
Doesn't change the fact that Players are doing it. Or are you saying that Sharapova, Berlocq, Gorgodze and Kuznetsova are not faking grunts?

Well, at least Heather broke her streak of tons of R1 losses at the USO in a row.

Anyone who’s ever played a single competitive match at any level will confirm how ridiculous it is to suggest that these players have the mental resource to plan how to grunt during a point. :rolls: The important thing is for the grunt to be natural and consistent over time, not within the same match.

Some probably have more control over it than others in that Sharapova will probably find it harder than Kuznetsova to stop should grunting suddenly be banned, but it doesn’t mean that any of these grunts are not natural. The rules permit them to grunt as they please, opponents have repeatedly said they rarely notice these things so I see no reason why they should even think about their grunt when they should be focusing on the tennis.

If it's natural, how does it come that Halep just started a few years ago with her grunts? She was totally silent before that. How does it come that Sharapova's screams get louder and longer in important situations? It is completely delusional to think that this is something natural.

Stop acting like grunting is something these girls are born with. It doesn’t matter whether they started at 3, 15 or 37 as long as it becomes part of their game and not a trick they pull out against certain opponents.

In Halep’s case, what would be “fake” is if she grunted like crazy for one match per tournament. She didn’t use to grunt, then for whatever reason she started grunting because she and her team thought it benefited her game, and her grunt is natural and consistent now.

I’m not even gonna comment on the Sharapova example. I can’t think of anything more natural than that.

What you fail to realize is that grunting is not just a side-effect of hitting a shot. It has many uses, such as controlling your breathing, keeping your intensity up and giving you that extra something in tight moments, and it is a personal choice for some players but I know there is a community of coaches who teach grunting as part of the game.

Anyway, Bolkvadze definitely isn’t one of the worst examples so I’m gonna stop this here. :wavey:

The bolded parts are actually my point and the reason why screaming/grunting is not natural. You're saying that Halep and her team decided that it would Benefit her game if she starts to grunt. How is it natural if someone told Halep to grunt? And Sharapova and Kuznetsova are not consistent, does it mean that their grunts are not natural?

Halep has always grunted...here she is in 2008. Gigi's sad defense is easy enough to puncture without using blatantly false arguments. :help:

She definitely didn't grunt in her early days on the ITF circuit. Then I heard her from about five courts away at a 25k earlier in the year.
