"...ehm...I mean it's so amazing being out there, with all those great players...and Martina is just so nice to me...I'm only affraid I'll be unable to move when we start to play. It's the pressure I feel from my family, coaches, uncles, my old granny and everyone else. I feel their look and it's so terrifying to me. I hope we won't be playing on the centre court. DAZZLING DANIELA STORMS PAST MATEVZIC!!!

Hantuchova celebrates after recording her first ever win on her debut in the FLT!

The Slovakian Starlet, Daniela Hantuchova got her FLT career off to a flying start with a 6-4 6-3 dismissal of team-mate Maja Matevzic. Hantuchova's performance backed up the confidence she displayed in her pre-match interviews. The Slovakian played at a consistently high standard and proved too much for Matevzic on the day.

"I'm pleased with the way everything went today", Hantuchova told the press, "I played pretty good tennis all the way through and I had confidence in my own ability all the way through. It's a shame my first victory came against a fellow bitch but at least now I'm through, I've shown the public some of my game and I can focus on tomorrow against Nathalie Dechy, where I will get some revenge back for Jenn."

When asked if she expected to do this well on her first performance she answered, "Yes, definitely. It had nothing to do with Maja because she's a top player and was seeded 5th here, but because of my own confidence. I know I'm a special talent and I'm going to use it as much as I can. I can only get better with more experience so I'm looknig forward to the future."

Hantuchova was then asked about her plans for the rest of the US Open, "I said I was here to win. People called me cocky and I suppose I am but it's because I have a right to be with my skills. This is the start of my rise to the top, I know that for sure."

It wasn't all succesful for Daniela today though, as she and Maggie Maleeva went down in 2 tight sets, "To be honest I was never too bothered about the doubles. I'm in the FLT for the singles and I saw the doubles as a chance to practice, nothing more. Maybe I shouldn't have teamed with someone from a rival team. I don't know, I'm not a commited doubles player."

Daniela Hantuchova faces Nathalie Dechy in the Grandstand for tomorrow's 2nd round encounter.
