didn't see the match but Su striked me as being out of form from singles, tho this doesn't necessarily reflects on db play.

She looked out of form in her doubles loss in Toronto too, hoped pairing up with Barbie would help inspire some magic again - wasn’t expecting a title run here but still surprised they lost to this pair.

Kichenok is another good regular doubles partner for Ostapenko - not sure if they are playing together because her twin sister is injured or something?

In the "Penko hitting people" ledger, she did tag Strycova at least once but it was off the bounce at the net - no dramatics at all from Barbie and Ostapenko was immediately and vocally apologetic (for those keeping score). Meanwhile, Hsieh asked for a physio in the first set, an out of the court MTO, and later managed to hit Strycova in the back, too, after a long cross court rally with Penko. It was that kind of a day for her.

Ostapenko's challenges still make me wonder if there is something going on with her depth vision. She seems so, so sure of some balls that are way out.

Granted, Hsieh and Strycova can't win everything. But can't they put up more of an effort. Kichenok and Ostapenko hit flat, hard groundstrokes with little margin of error. Kichenok had unforced errors, but Ostapenko never seemed to miss. Why didn't Hsieh and Strycova vary their shots, sliced some shots or lob. Hsieh did try some lobbing some but they were futile because too short. Kichenok and Ostapenko aren't strong servers and double fault, so Hsieh team got some breaks. But they got broken themselves almost every time! Hey, how about varying your serves when opponents are teeing off on them. Don't serve to Ostapenko's backhand when she is crushing the return there. This match shows the value of coaching. Hsieh and Strycova never adjusted. If they were allowed coaching visits like in regular WTA tournaments, I would expect the coach would give them this advice. Hsieh did have a medical timeout early and then had heavy bandage on thigh. But she seemed to be moving all right, just didn't adjust to other team's groundstroke pace. She seem flustered. We will never know why Hsieh and Strycova played so poorly and didn't adjust because of the lack of media coverage of doubles. Frustrating.
