The U.S. Open website says that Todd and Prentiss lost the 1943 final to Brough and Osborne 6-1, 6-3. The draw posted here, however, says that Betz and Hart lost to Brough and Osborne 6-4, 6-3. The draw also says that the doubles competition was held in Forest Hills. Was there a separate doubles competition in Longwood that year or is the U.S. Open website simply wrong? The International Tennis Hall of Fame apparently agrees with the draw posted hear as it lists 1943 as one of the years that Hart lost a women's doubles final at the U.S. Championships. Thanks.

Hi Austinrunner--

Thanks for the added result for 1920-I added it. I noticed we haven't done 1919 yet.

I can confirm that the 1943 result is correct. The doubles were held at Forest Years that year due to the war. With a reduced draw in mens and women singles all 5 events could easily fir into the schedule. I don't know why the US Open site has it wrong, but mistakes happen!

Speaking of errors, I thank you for catching a big one. I had the wrong winners and the wrong score.

I've corrected it and added some notes about seeding.

Thank for your keen eye:)

1991 US Open

The ITF site has Nideffer/Kohde-Kilsch winning that 3R match and going on to lose to Fernandez/Garrison in the Quarters by the exact same scores, not Reinach/Smith. The WTA site has the same results as this post. How do we know which one is correct?

Re: 1965

Second Round
Moffitt/Susman [1] d. Buck/McKean 6-2 6-1
That was the team of Marjorie Gladman Van Ryn Buck (born 21 June 1908) and Katherine Winthrop McKean (born 17 July 1914). Has there ever been a women's doubles team with a combined age higher than theirs (108) in the main draw of the U.S. nationals? They were off-and-on partners at this tournament beginning in 1953 and ending in 1965. Gladman Van Ryn Buck played the tournament one more time, with Betty Rosenquest Pratt in 1967.

Gladman Van Ryn Buck won the U.S. nationals with Carolin Babcock in 1936. They beat the formidable team of Helen Jacobs and Sarah Palfrey Fabyan Cooke Danzig in the final 9-7, 2-6, 6-4. She also was the runner-up in 1937 (with Babcock) and 1940 (with Dorothy Bundy Cheney).

Thanks Wolbo!

I have put your information into the results section at:

http://www.tennisforum.com/282341-post44.html

By the end of this year I will have all the slam results reorganized and completed. The US Open is particularly tricky, as for many years the doubles was played separately at Longwood.

Longwood results are found here: http://www.tennisforum.com/108-grand-slam-results/1000137-us-doubles-longwood.html
