As you all know tennis world is often an unfair one, I thik players such as Mary Joe Fernandezor Kimiko Date retired without any Grand Slam . I would have given an Us open to MJ and an Oz to Kimiko.
Which of the active tennis players would you give a Grand Slam???? I have it clear: Amanda Coetzer would win Garros & Zvereva Wimby

I think Kimiko deserved to win Wimbledon 1996. She almost beat Steffi in the semis and would have done so if the match hadn't been interrupted. Of course I'm glad Steffi won but Kimiko deserved it so much.

Mary Joe was very close in winning RG 1993 but again it was Steffi who prevented that.

I wish Sabine had won the AO '97. She played such a good match in the quarters against Pierce but in the end nerves beat her . Plus she liked Australia very much so it would have been nice to win there.

And I would give the USO to Natasha Zvereva just because she's such a cool player who should have won at least one slam.

Natasha Zvereva RG , Wimbledon , US , AUS

she would have been #1 if only she had been not nervous that day in 88

Kimiko - Josh, I totally agree. And that's speaking as a huge Steffi fan.
Natasha - deserves not one but many Slams! based on a) talent and b) sheer innate coolness

I really hope Mirjana Lucic wins a Slam. If she doesn't, she fits into this category too.

I disagree that Kimiko almost beat Steffi at wimbledon, it was 6:2 2:6 when the match was cancelled that`s an even score Steffi could and would have raised her level again in the third set for sure even in the dark and with her cold, and well I also think Steffi would have won 6:2 6:4 without that man screaming at 2:4.

I still think she retired to soon though, she could have been a force in 97. all because of that stupid new ranking

I totally agree about the 1996 Wimby, but the reason why I chose giving Kimiko an Oz open is just a question of geography, is there where asian players have more supporters, although nobody in the tour hate them!! And is there where they do their best e.g. Sugiyama in 2000 and Naoko in 95.
I give Us Open to M Joe because for long time she was the best in US ( but she wasn't born there!!) and I really think that her success has no been recognized.
Amanda FO just because I think she's still thinking about her semi with Majoli (in 97??) and more after Majoli's easy win over Hingis ( but Majoli in case of losing against Coetzer would be in the same position she's now)
Zvereva is the most talented, she could have won everything, anyway she almost get it in 98 but Tauziat was needed of a big performance in a Slam at least!!!

i watched the 1996 semi, graf vs kimiko. kimiko is slow to get into match like 1995 lipton againest Gaby. you know, the second set, she totally changed to another person. she is so excited at that time, but the director think it is too dark.(but i don't think so) the next day, kimiko is slow again at the beginning of the match...
i wanna give a wimbledon title to Tauziat, because i still remember the 1998.
so glad that i don't need to give a wimbledon title to jana. she did it by herself...

In the fed cup match where she beat Steffi 12:10 in the third, the fanatics of the Japanese was even more amazing, they totally went wild. I will never forget that man running up and down the stairs

Anyway I think we totally agree is unfair she retired without a GS tittle!!!!!!!
I can't understand why she did it, look at Tauziat,
And the same for Sabatini, MJ Fernandez, Huber.
Do you know what's happen with Irina Spirlea??

I think if Mary Joe had made her matchpoint against Monica in the semis of the aussie open 91 she would have beaten Novotna in the final

I really believe Helena Sukova should have gained 1 slam at least. She certainly had the game if not the nerve. But at the end of the day we are discussing the Slams i.e what separates the elite players from the very good. I also think Manuela Maleeva should have won Roland Garros within her career.

Irina Spirlea shoulda/coulda/woulda won a GS...hmmm, maybe the French? If I was a tennis god, I'd give her the 1997 US Open

I miss Irina so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

propi..she retired last year around Wimbledon. She got married and her game just fell away...SOOOO talented, I wish her all the best in her life, but....I wish she was still playing, still only 27

I think i am more hurt that Coetzer,Huber,mj fernandez,Date,Applemans,Van Roost, tuaziat, and zvereva haven't won a grandslam.

Now its too late for huber, fernandez, date, applemans, tauziat, and van roost.

and Zvereva seems to be to injured to ever win a grandslam now.

So I put my hopes on my favorite, the littlest pro, with the biggest heart, named mandy.

Whoever mentioned Kimiko Date at Lipton, the reason why she started off so badly was that she was injured from the start. How she won that match I'll never know as Gaby was cruising to an easy victory (sadly it was all to like 1993 QF at the French open ).

I agree that Date would have had a great chance of winning that match in 1996 against Steffi but she could still have taken it the next day.

MJ Fernandez was very unlucky not to have won a slam - if she had met anyone apart from Monica and Steffi in those finals I think she would have won one .
