The tour usually has at least one veteran player who every thinks has the talent to win a GS, but has some fatal flaw. Jana Novotna fulfilled this role for years. Jenn Capriati certainly would have, if her career hadn't included arrest and time off the tour. Our expectations for her changed. Amanda Coetzer has been ranked as high as #3, and certainly seemed like she could break through and win a GS. I think her window has closed though. But right now, the top ten is filled by young up-and-coming stars, and GS winners. The highest ranking player, over the age of 24, w/o a GS title is Sandrine Testud. A nice player, but not one that has high percentage GS apirations.

Can any other veteran players do what Jenn did in 2001, and come from the 2nd ten to win a GS title?

I'm hoping that Arantxa will get another GS before she leaves tennis <img src="frown.gif" border="0">

Most likely it would be the French, but it would be brialliant for her to win Wimby!!!

She hasnt had the best of years this year, I hope she improves that forehand and maybe adds a bit of power to her game!

Then she'll have a good chance!!
