I am sorry this is a day late but since the board has been down I couldn't post. I went to the final yesterday between Maria-Elena Camerin and Kristina Brandi. Both girls came out swinging from the start. It was a very entertaining match. The final score was 7-6(7), 6-3. The first set was very high quality even on the big points. Maria was ripping her forehand and Kristina wasn't budging off of the baseline. I had never seen Kristina play but I was amazed at what wonderful timing she has. It was almost Andre like. Kristina held to start the match and then followed that up by breaking Maria. She consolidated that break with a hold to go up 3-0. Maria's attitude was already starting to flare up but not to bad yet. Maria won the next 3 games to make things interesting. Then Kristina broke the momentum with a beautiful overhead to take a 4-3 lead. Kristina had break points to go up 5-3 and serve for the first but Maria turned on her backhand and hit 2 beautiful down the line winners to make it 4 all . Kristina had routine holds as did Maria all the way to 6-6. Maria got the mini-break on the first point but then made a stupid backhand error after a long rally. Maria got very heated at 3-3 when the chair umpire overuled a ball that was called out but was corrected. It was close but I couldn't tell from where I was. Maria had a set point at 6-5, and at 7-6 but lost both of them with errors forced by Kristina. Maria made stupid errors to give up the set. The second set went pretty normally with Maria being broken in the first game after being up 30-love. She then took out a flower pot with a ball. She never seemed to find her range but there was still a lot of high quality points and games. Most of the points were decided by winners instead of errors. Kristina just played the bigger points better and now I can see why she is doing so well lately.
