BOGOTA, COLOMBIA (TICKER) -- Top seed Cristina Torrens-Valero of Spain suffered a surprising 6-4, 6-4 defeat Saturday at the hands of local wild-card entrant Fabiola Zuluaga in the semifinals of the $170,000 Copa Colsanitas.

Zuluaga, the champion here in 1999, will face Katarina Srebotnikin in Sunday's final of the claycourt event. The unseeded Slovenian rallied past another Colombian, Catalina Castano, 5-7, 7-5, 6-4, in the other semifinal.

Torrens-Valero stumbled in her attempt to capture a third WTA title. Her last win came at Sopot in 2001, helping her climb from 94th to 32nd in the world rankings at year's end.

Zuluaga advanced to her first tour final since May 2000, when she lost to Spain's Gala Leon Garcia at the Madrid Open, another claycourt event.

The 23-year-old Bogota resident was sidelined for most of 2001 as she recovered from a pair of operations on her right shoulder.

Both of Zuluaga's victories on the WTA Tour came in 1999. After winning here early in the year, she captured the Brazil Ladies Open title at Sao Paulo in October.

Srebotnikin, 20, is gunning for her second career victory. Currently ranked 89th in the world, she captured the 1999 Estoril Open claycourt title.
