Only saw parts of the match here and there including the last game. Elina looked especially focused on playing her opponent's forehand which was going to fly out half the time.

Still not particularly convinced by Elina's form since she came back from injury, despite the Wimbledon semi. She's making matches far more complicated for herself than she would have at her peak and seems extremely nervous trying to finish matches now (when's the last time she won a match on her first match point?).

Still, a win is a win and it's worth a lot of points here. Up to #8 in the live race, but it's hard to see her doing much damage to Bencic in this shape.

I saw Bencic play today against Goerges and I give the edge to Elina. Her shape is fine.

If today's Belinda shows up again, I can agree with you. I'm more inclined to call this just one bad match from Belinda, though, whereas Elina's just in meh form all round at the moment.

Losing a set to this doubles specialist? :scared: E needs to take a break from the game. Hasn't been the same since her injury, head isn't in the right place. She looked no better in this match than her woeful choke to Sakkari last week. It's sad to compare this girl to the version we had this time in 17...

Siniakova has ridiculously bad mentality which prevents her from achieving anything significant in singles.
Still she is always dangerous opponent in opening rounds even if she mostly loses in the end.

Elina's match in the previous tournament was TOP until she struggled to close and lost it to a peaking Sakkari. Her meh form is past, this second half of the year will be much better, especially on hard court.

Not it wasn’t. Her serve was terrible against Kasatkina.

That’s a reflection on her opponent. Kasatkina is 9/14 for the year.

1 ace, 6 double faults.

You’re not very smart, are you?
smart enough to understand Elina's serve wasn't a problem in this match. Stay blind at will if it's your thing: Elina peaked for near 2 sets against Sakkari (the best she played this year) and that was enough for me to notice a return to form.

The parts I saw in this one vs Siniakova were fine.

PS: by the way Kasatkina is coming back to form too.
