The only memorable thing Osaka contributed to this match were those forced smiles as the winners whooshed past her. She hit five winners the entire match, to 18 UEs, and was a total passenger throughout.
This result highlights not only how much Serena has improved in terms of movement, endurance and confidence, but also how much Osaka has regressed. She was made to look like a second rate player, just like Serena has made basically everyone look throughout the years.
Serena was serving bigger, hitting bigger off the ground and redirecting better. Just so many more tools at her disposal.
I don't care what anyone says, Serena playing when she's focused and relaxed is the best person to play the game... The funny thing is, she wasn't even playing her best here and she still isn't in the best shape .
Guys, she's finally back fit and unplayable most of the time. She could not even bother to chase down dropshots a month ago but crashed high speed into net trying to get one of Osaka's droppers down 15-40 in return game. Slam finals' revenge tour will continue with Halep demolition on Saturday. Simona still has some time to opt out and give Bouzkova a Premier SF and Serena experience 2in1. No.24 all set in NYC a year late.
Amazing things happen when Serena's AWOL BH shows up. First time it's worked since she played Azarenka, which allowed her to actually maintain her position on the baseline and play actual points. I expect it to vanish for another few months after this.
That is one great serving lesson by serena in wind. This loss isn't hurful compared to the last losses in few mnths. Naomi must take this as lesson and improve her game in windy conditions.
Serena will always be the one to beat when she peaks like this and boy her serve. Her second serve was also unreturnable today.
Though disappointed by naomi in rallies. She wasnt taking any risks at all. Serena was going for all killer shots . Well deserved win.
