Top players tired playing doubles???

It's very draining on top players to play doubles.
...but two top-10 players won the Aussie Open Doubles.

Tired of playing dubs? Do they even play dubs?
I wish they did though, but in a best of 5 set match at the slams I can see them not wanting to take the risk of being on the court 5-6 hours per day for two matches. Heck, after some of the 5 hour matches that went on this year at the AO, imagine playing after that.
Of coarse this is the WTA board, so I should switch gears here... I do like seeing the women play dubs at all tournaments. They used to, and maybe that gets back to your question, tired of it? Davenport played dubs at the AO this year didn't she? Some of the women are on the court for hardly an hour sometimes in a singles match...

Sometimes the dubs can cost players esp when are in contention for the big one.
2002, whuile hingis was sweating it out with anna K for the dubs title, Jen was getting a massage. On finals day, the heat got to both girls and jen prevailed in the end coz she was the fresher of the two.
who knows what linday might have been able to do at this AO, she also admitted to being drained. ordinarily she may have been fine, but she was recovering from bronchitis.
That said venus and serena have won both the doobles and singles in the one event. Vee won wimby 2001 and the dubs as well, serena won ao 2003 and the dubs as well.

Doubles titles are more important than singles.

i really love the doubles game.
i think that it really is time for the double specialists to rise - double prizes should go way up (at least 1.5 times what we have now).
with so many super-strong, powerful athletes on tour, it's time for the golden-touch girls with amazing volleys and quick reactions to step up.
that has been the case in alot of the very top - corina, huber, black and more - but i would like to see even more. a strong top 20 might make the doubles finally appriciated.
the kuzzy-molik team is great but i think a little courage and a lot of self-belief can help many girls beat them as teams.
but the thought of "i'm gunna play doubles as a career" sounds really bad to people.
they don't see it as something positive - but more of a statement that they don't have what it takes to play singles.

Doubles is a harder game than singles, not physically, but tactically. I think the top players are far too tired to play doubles. Just look at Dementieva. She's had to pull out on Ai a couple of times already this year with injury/illness
