There was talk in another thread about instances where top players are "owned" by players that you wouldn't expect in the head-to-head. So which ones can you think of? Off the top of my head I thought of three such cases, and looked them up:

Mary Pierce vs Paola Suarez

2 Toronto Aug 17 2003 P Suarez - M Pierce-WC 6-4 7-5
2 Auckland Jan 5 2003 P Suarez(5) - M Pierce 4-6 6-4 6-4
1 US Open Sep 8 2002 P Suarez(32) - M Pierce 7-63 6-3
3 Australian O. Jan 28 2001 P Suarez - M Pierce(7) 6-3 6-2
2 Hamburg May 4 1997 M Pierce(6) - P Suarez 3-6 7-63 6-3

Angelika Roesch vs Elena Dementieva

1 Wimbledon July 6 2003 E Dementieva(15) - A Roesch 6-2 6-1
2 Quebec Sep 22 2002 A Roesch - E Dementieva(2) 7-60 6-71 6-4
1 New Haven Aug 25 2002 A Roesch-Q - E Dementieva(8) 6-3 1-6 6-3
1 Berlin May 12 2002 A Roesch-Q - E Dementieva(12) 6-4 1-6 7-5

Anne Kremer vs Jelena Dokic

3 Key Bisc. Mar 31 2002 A Kremer(26) - J Dokic(7) 6-3 6-1
3 Indian W. Mar 17 2002 A Kremer(26) - J Dokic(5) 6-3 6-0
2 Pan Pacif. Feb 3 2002 A Kremer - J Dokic(2) 7-5 6-2
3 Wimbledon July 4 1999 J Dokic-Q - A Kremer 6-77 6-3 6-4

I think Elena has pretty much ended her curse against Roesch. She trashed her at Wimby.

however their h2h is 3:2 in stevensons favour so she doesn't really own capriati. however 4 of those 5 matches were played in 2002 and stevenson won 3 of those.

Cappy was playing real bad in 2002. The one at the start of the year was probably a true win, but the ones in Linz (the shitest match I have seen Cappy play), and Fillderstadt where terrible with Cappy not playing at all well.

it's not that pierce is owned by suarez..it's just that these matches have been played in the worst moment of pierce's career,so u cant really say that she's owned.i'm sure if these matches were played in 1998/99 pierce would have won easily.
same for lindsay and conchita: conchita leads lindsay 10-6 or stg like this ONLY cos the most of matches have been played in middle 90' when lindsay wasnt still the champ she's now.

I'm sure this has been spoken of on the thread before but is anyone as perplexed as I am with Dechy's dominance over Shaughnessy? I would've thought they'd be somewhere close to equal footing but it seems Shaughnessy has major problems dealing with Dechy - though I'm sure most of the problem at this point is a mental obstacle.

There are always factors, I'm not denying that. But Suarez owns the head-to-head - I'm not saying she is the better player. If she was the better player then the head-to-head wouldn't be interesting, would it?

But then again, Stevenson hardly plays great against anyone. Actually Capriati is the only player worth mentioning that she has beaten.
