Samsonova was always going to be tricky to beat, but it's good to see Xinyu put in a decent performance and start to demonstrate the talent that's in there again.

2022 will be a year to forget for her, but she's still to turn 21, so there's always time.

Please stop abbreviating Samsonova with L Samsonova. It will cause confusion in the future with Laura Samsonova from Czech Republic, who is currently one of the very best Juniors in the whole world. She just made a J1 semi-final at age 14 and won the prestigious world U14 team championship together with Alena Kovackova.

Laura Samsonova is likely going to be a force on the main tour in 2-3 years at max.

Even though she lost, Xinyu is playing much better now. That should give her more confidence going forward. She is an exciting player to watch when she's playing good tennis. Hopefully she'll keep improving.

Samsonova beat Muguruza and is about 17-1 since being banned from Wimbledon
