I think I might have an in-grown toe nail on my big foot! I don't understand, I groom a lot, and cut my nails and file them at times. It hurts a lot, and my nail looks smalller...no gross stuff but it hurts and its kinda red....

OMG i'm soo embarrassed.....any advice on not having to go to a doctor....

You may have cut your nail too short...this can lead to an ingrown nail.
Keep an eye on it...if it gets sore you should see your doctor as it can become seriously infected.

Yep...I have had the dreaded black toe nail from trauma...especially from playing tennis on hard courts as a teenager. It taks months for the black nail to grow out....gorgeous!

Sounds more like an ingrown though...especially if it is red and sore.

There's nothing gross in this. Go to you doctor if it doesn't get better the next days.

Don't cut your toenails off at the corners - cut them straight across.

Well I have the same problem every spring, when the hardcourt season starts. Actually happened to both my big toe nails earlier. I'm pretty used to it, though it hurts like hell. I've been told by numerous specialists to boil some water, add some salt, and put your toe in some very hot water. It helps preventing the infection, and while you are in the water, the nail is softer, which can help ya to play a lil with it and manage to get the damn corner out of the skin. Make sure you also constantly put peroxyde or alcohol on it, to prevent infection. Also, if you have some cream, like Polysporin, just put some in the corner of the nail, with a plaster over it when you go to sleep.

Hope that helps :wavey:

Poor hydrogen peroxide on it...it'll foam up and pus might come out. If you do that everyday it should go away in a few days!
