I gently commend you to today's Rome semi Venus Williams vs Dinara Safina.

I write this without knowing who won. (3-3 in the third.) But this is two BIG-time hitters, reduced by a slow court, and their opponent's prowess, to playing chess. Twoplayers trying to defend against huge pwoer shots, and construct an opening for a winner. And then execute the winner. Tuf-stuf

Yes. Players use strategies sometimes. You know, hit to the open court, hit behind your opponent, etc.
Very rudimentary stuff.

This is a good match.
I wouldn't exactly call what they're doing out there chess, though.

Chess? :tape: Ok, sure. Strategy - definitely, there's been lots of good rallies and hitting behind one another, but nothing like "tennis chess" (see Hingis). :p
