One always knows when a Williams has won a match or tournament

There are no "congratulations" Serena threads from other fans, like other players usually get.

Instead, we are back to baseless charges against the Williams.

Jealousy ain't pretty.

I agree with you rmc--Serena played a great tournament despite the ending to the finals...she was the last one standing(no pun intended)..

She came bcak from some time off and it seems like she never left.

CONGRATS!!!!

Oh dear! I didn't realise that I was supposed to congratulate Serena for winning a match she didn't play! Silly me...It must be because I am such a hater. Oh well...

Personally I would have preferred to see Serena go out there and spank Lindsay's butt. Hard! She has Lindsay's number -- which explains why there was some some initial suspicion as to whether Lindsay was really injured or just avoiding yet another spanking from Serena. I'm happy for Serena that she got all those millions bec I know that she is probably happy for that too. But I have a hard time working up the requisite fever to congratulate her for a non-performance.

Or maybe I'm just missing something here...
TC

Serena won the tournament. It is an insult to Silvia, Justine, Jen Cap, Amelie Mauresmo, Sandrine Testud and a whole host of other players on Serena's side of the draaw to to insinuate that Serena didn't have to work hard to WIN.

It is unfortunate that Lindsay was too injured to play, just as it was unfortunate that Lindsay beat Martina when Martina twisted her ankle. People still cheered on JCAP when she advanced to a finals when Clijsters hurt her knee and had to default to her during a recent semi-finals.

Serena won. She won by the rules. She won fair and square. She was very cordial to Lindsay, who had to default. Serena didn't cheat.

In the spirit of sportspersonship, it is customary to congratulate the winner.

Dawn Marie:
I have many favorites. Serena happens to be one of them. I have never congratulated any of my favorites for a walkover. I feel terrific when my faves play and win. And so yes, I agree that Serena deserves our heartiest congrats for her wins against Henin and Testud especially. But for the walkover against Davenport? Surely you jest?
TC

rmc has a point (but the whole "hater" label is getting old). I remember seeing messages in here congratulating Lindsay for beating Martina Hingis at Filderstadt. Come on! They played something like 3 games and then Hingis went down, tearing ankle ligaments! They may not have been direct but statements like "congrats for beating two no.1s in consecutive weeks," etc...

Congrats to Serena for her wins over Silvia, Justine and Sandrine (you have to be playing well to win so decisively) and for becoming the Sanex Championships Champion at the end of it and, most importantly, getting herself back into the Top 8!

It's a long way form not caring much one way or another to 'hate'. I saw virtually no anti-Williams commentary on the baord except one incoherent thing about Richard. People hate someone becasue they fail to congratulate them? That's absurd. Did you notice Lindsay did not shake the hand of the chair umpire after the semi. Didn't even look at her. Does Lindsay hate her? Or is she just angry?

I've been a big fan of Venus's since 1997, but this is paranoia. There was no great upsurge of anti-Williams posts recently. If Venus and Serena are less loved than some, remember that only two years ago, there really WAS a lot of hate being spewed at at them. Look at Indian Wells. But all that's going on here is that a player who is a favorite of some, but not most, of the posters, won a tournament in a walkover. No drama. No tension. Nothing.

Why should anyone get worked up about it?

The haters, such as they are, are trivial now. Venus and Serena are perennial top ten players now, Olympic champs, GS champs. They're HERE. We can stop being defensive now. We can just ignore them.

Volcana has a strong point.

But Rmc if you wish to post a topic abot haters then it is your opinion. But I honestly dont think many haters are posting in here much. Only a few and that is because Serena and Venus beat up on their favorite. And dont forget Venus is now ahead of Martina for the first time ever I think.

But your point is well taken my friend.

I try not to get wrapped up in "semantics". We aren't required to have English degrees in order to post here. When I used the phrase Williams haters, I thought I was playing on a colloquialism, like "Playa Haters".

Volcana, you write very thoughtful and insightful posts. But, when people start condescending to me or patronizing me, I find it very off-putting and I eventually ignore them. To be honest, I found your response to me to be rather patronizing.

Dawn Marie, I think, phrased it well when she reminded us that it was my opinion. Just because you didn't observe something, doesn't mean it didn't happen. You were very absolute and matter-of-fact in your statements that what I was observing was in fact NOT happening. Who made YOU the arbiter?

We have two different interpretations of what we were reading today. Maybe, my reaction was a bit severe. I tend to drift more into hyperbole and drama. I know that. It is just a matter for a lot of us that we don't spend enough time thinking of *exactly* the word that accurately reflects our point, or we exaggerate for effect.

If you'd like to have a discourse on the exact connotation of the word "hate", please don't bother me with such exercises. I have a very good education that I am continuing. I'm in good hands.

I think most people know what I was referring to. And I think you might want to be a little less "pedagogical" in your responses. Or just ignore me. Others on the board will attest that I am very good at ignoring others.

TC that was a rather ridiculous statement from you. I don't give a damn how many times Serena has beaten Lindsay.

Serena still would have to go out on the court and face a very powerful, dangerous player who had the best indoor record of the season.

MS Williams would have had her hands full I can guarantee that......

I have to agree with Dawn and Volcana on this rmc... sorry. Don't mean to be patornizing or anything, but I think there are not as many haters as you think around... just a few loud ones. Maybe if we don't create such threads, then there will be less for the haters to bitch about, as we'll give them less to feed their hate on.

Come on, lindsay would have beaten serena! she was on a roll, and without offence to silvia, justine and sandrine - had a tougher section of the draw! you have gotta laugh when you read some of these message headings - they WANT provocation. i like lindsay, i like serena - i think lindsay would have won - does that make me a hater....?
