Interestingly enough, apart from Serena´s fate of an injury, Venus´ not playing in the next few weeks puts hardcourt lover Lindsay Davenport in position to overtake her and change places with her as no4 and 5 in the world respectively.
With Serena playing the US Open, this would have made a quarterfinal between the sisters possible, wouldn´t it.
Now that Serena is out, we have the Belgiums seeded 1-2 at the Open, followed by Lindsay and Venus as no 3-4 or 4-3.
Some might say, with Amelie so far not playing the hardcourts and Jenn in doubt with injury, these US Open are boredom, but I would say that it´s great for Serena resting her injury and return 100% rather than risking anything serious.
It´s a fact that Kim´s dominance at the moment will show that boredom is not only based on boredom due to repeating Williams-finals but also due to the fact that we´ve a very long+hard scheduling and that -at the moment- both the Belgians profit from that, that is their opponents injury-fate. There was a time not long ago it was unsure if Kim is to quit tennis because of the injury. Now she´s injury-free, it´s well deserved she gets that spot, if she´s winning GS WITH or WITHOUT Serena in it. She plays the more events, gets the more points, you would not change a ranking even if giving the GS even more points. It´s not only the GS that make the rankings. They indeed get the double of points winning a GS and it´s still not that much points Kim has for winning tierI and tierII in a row. And for that, she deserves the ranking.
