Interestingly enough, apart from Serena´s fate of an injury, Venus´ not playing in the next few weeks puts hardcourt lover Lindsay Davenport in position to overtake her and change places with her as no4 and 5 in the world respectively.

With Serena playing the US Open, this would have made a quarterfinal between the sisters possible, wouldn´t it.

Now that Serena is out, we have the Belgiums seeded 1-2 at the Open, followed by Lindsay and Venus as no 3-4 or 4-3.

Some might say, with Amelie so far not playing the hardcourts and Jenn in doubt with injury, these US Open are boredom, but I would say that it´s great for Serena resting her injury and return 100% rather than risking anything serious.

It´s a fact that Kim´s dominance at the moment will show that boredom is not only based on boredom due to repeating Williams-finals but also due to the fact that we´ve a very long+hard scheduling and that -at the moment- both the Belgians profit from that, that is their opponents injury-fate. There was a time not long ago it was unsure if Kim is to quit tennis because of the injury. Now she´s injury-free, it´s well deserved she gets that spot, if she´s winning GS WITH or WITHOUT Serena in it. She plays the more events, gets the more points, you would not change a ranking even if giving the GS even more points. It´s not only the GS that make the rankings. They indeed get the double of points winning a GS and it´s still not that much points Kim has for winning tierI and tierII in a row. And for that, she deserves the ranking.

This don't really mean much since the season is not yet over and after the US, kim played like five tourneys last year including the year end so she has points to defend and serena played like two tourneys...venus didn't play til moscow which she lost I think in the first round and then returned at the year end so the points don't really matter til all is said and done...........the sisters could still end up 1 and 2 I imagine......serena needs to win the year end and play several tourneys leading up to it......and venus, we all know what she needs to do right?

As far as that draw doesn't mean much, your right. As far as the defending points is concerned, you're not quite right:

If Serena doesn't defend Leipzig/Tokyo will see her lose 500 points. By the time Kim defends her points, mostly they will not be included in her 17 best, or worst case scenario by replaced by her reserve tournament points.

The only two place were she clould lose a substantial amount of points is the Championships, but Serena's doing some defending there herself, and Filderstadt.

Don't count on Kim going down any time soon. Her failing to defend has lot less consequences because of the larger no. of tournaments she played.

If you think the sisters have a realistic chance of finishing the year in the top 2, you're wrong, unless Kim and Justine would get injured all of a sudden themselves!
