Why can't they do best of 5 no-ad scoring?

It doesn't make sense to me, why the men are still playing BO5 only in slams.

It's 2021. Drop the it's "tradition" and "men's tennis is better" arguments...

Let them play BO3 as well please, i never watch them at Grand Slams, they are taking toooooo long.

Look man......this point you are making is academic.....this is not going to change. Reading through here @Sphrontanascier made an excellent point....that the "Big 3" have dominated the Masters 1000 events on ATP in best of three sets....
so the men shouldn't be against Bo3 everywhere. This would also end the talk about Equal Pay

With Swiatek already the only top 10 player this year on the QF
Technically, she is not a real top-10. She's still carrying her last year's French Open 2000 points. When she drops those in October, we'll see her real ranking.

because no-Ad is dumb. Got to win every game by 2 points.
Otherwise, why stop at no-ad. why not count all the net balls as valid? someone hits a cheap serve that hits the net, falls on the other side and dies right there... and yup, that's an ace. NOPE it's NOT.
Talking about cheapening the value of an ace and encouraging terrible servers.

so what? watch men's tennis then
Yup, but the OP is right and people should reduce their amount of bitching about flopping elite players.

You are daft. Actually if not for frozen rankings Iga would have been top 10 last year already right after winning the RG. Either way you betterget ready for being pressed by Iga's success later this season.

The men are gradually abandoning Bo5, Why would the women want to take it up?

Davis Cup now Bo3 throughout.
All matches at ATP Tour levels below GS and at Challengers Bo3
All matches in qualifying at slams Bo3 apart from the final round at Wimbledon
All matches in doubles at AO, RG & US Open Bo3. Wimbledon is the only place in the universe where men's doubles is Bo5, which makes it hard to schedule as no big name players are entered and it occupies loads of court time.

The whole shift is towards making the matches shorter, as the rallies (the actual tennis) are much longer than they were in past centuries due to advances in racket design, slowing of the courts, and improved fitness of the players.

As others have said, it isn't feasible to increase the amount of tennis being played without extending slams by extra days (or cutting the draws to 64). And Wimbledon's grass just couldn't cope with the extra wear - they'd have to switch to synthetic grass.

The Women-should-play-Bo5 argument has always been code for Women-should-be-paid-less. It's an argument that belongs in the 1970s not this century.

back in the 70's, 80's, 90's. the women were a lot more predictable than men at grand slams. meaning top players would be making into QF consistently slam in slam out. then in the 2000's, 2010's, 2020's, the role reverses, where the men were a lot more predictable than the women at grand slams.

The big 3 on ATP dominate Indian Wells and Miami Masters as well... probably less dominant than in slams but they are still very consistent

Since beginning of 2017...
The mens GS winners were: 6x Djokovic & Nadal, 3x Federer, 1x Thiem.
The mens Masters winners were: 8x Nadal,6x Djokovic, 4x Federer, Zverev; 3x Medvedev, 1x Dimitrov, Sock, del Potro, Isner, Khachanov, Thiem, Fognini, Hurkacz, Tsitsipas...so 18/34 by Big Three, and 19/34 by a GS winner.

The womens GS winners were: 4x Naomi, 2x Halep, 1x Serena, Ostapenko, Muguruza, Stephens, Wozniacki, Kerber, Barty, Andreescu, Kenin, Swiatek.
The womens PM/P5/WTA1000 winners were: 4x Svitolina, Sabalenka; 3x Halep; 2x Garcia, Muguruza, Naomi, Kvitova, Bertens, Andreescu, Barty; 1x Vesnina, Konta, Stephens, Wozniacki, Bencic, Pliskova, Keys, Azarenka, Swiatek...so 17/34 by a GS winner.

Something tells me the mens GS winners won't be as monopolized if they played Bo3.

Sakkari is the fittest player on tour. Swiatek would have received a bakery product in the third set.

Nadal is invincible at RG because of the Bo5. I doubt he would have won 13 FO (and maybe 14) if he was playing on Bo3. Djokerer would have scored multiples wins against him IMO.
Nadal has only played two 5-setters at the French Open. One against Djokovic, but Nadal was the one who led 2 sets to 1. Isner led Nadal 2 sets to 1 in the other time, but the third set ended in a tiebreak, so would knows if he would have been able to close.

but why are the elite players flopping? why it isn't the other players getting better?

the tour is not the same as it was in 1995/2000. now everyone in the top 100 is getting better physically and playing with a better gameplan.

Why? Swiatek was extremely injured and could barely stand at the start of the second set. She had to take an emergency MTO. You think she would be in any shape to contest a third set?

Sakkari is a choker, but a two set lead gives a lot of confidence.

Swiatek said afterwards that she possibly over-reacted to the niggle that she could feel in her thigh. Once she had it strapped up she was able to move much more easily. Even though she wasn't playing well, I still can't see how Sakkari would have sent her to the bakery, but we don't need to argue the point.

They focus on GS because they keep energy just for them and their schedule just revolves around them with all the GOAT thing still up in the air. As for women playing 5 sets it is out of the question. For once just imagine the scheduling mess at some slams having Errani playing 6 hour matches. Not enough courts. Also the new generation of viewers have very low attention spans and want everything here and now. Not sure about the recovery time as well.
