What a poor line up that is, why decides who enters? Can't see past Peng, or at a push Xinyu (again).

What about the likes of:

Hibino
Zhu
Doi
Sharipova
Duan
Nara
Rybakina
Xiyu
Raina
Thandi

Surely they would rather compete in this than the actual qualifiers where they could come up against Kuznetsova, Danilovic, Zvonareva etc. in the FQR or were those already in a qualifying position exempt but Peng just sneaked in because of that Houston win?
Initially Sharipova (now withdrawn) had the highest ranking 122 in the acceptance list and Peng entered with ranking 298.

QA 1 Pranjala YADLAPALLI 287 IND
QA 2 Shuai PENG 298 CHN
QA 3 Haruka KAJI 299 JPN
QA 4 Xinyu WANG 306 CHN

Acceptance list as of 20 Nov

The official site has for a while a 100 player list under the tab Past Touranments > Players

In the morning (HK time) they had all the players including Agnieszka Radwanska ranked from 1 to 99 and the 103 ranked Sachia Vickery.

Now they have amended the list to include Monica Niculescu (100) and removed Vickery.

since the Q-list will be decided by NEW Wta ranking (current shadow ranking) of next week, I prepared potential Q-list
For 128-QDraw there are 119 DA and 9 WC according to GrandSlamRulebook2018.

There are three players in the Dubai acceptance list with protect rankings.

Olga GOVORTSOVA (BLR) 144 SR
Quirine LEMOINE (NED) 157 SR
Lina GJORCHESKA (MKD) 213 SR

There are still some other players with SR such as

Rebecca SRAMKOVA 176 SR ... If entering, likely SRAMKOVA uses her SR rather than a predicted 17 Dec ranking 229.
Susanne CELIK 179 SR

We may assume the cutoff ranking of the AO 2019 Quali to be 231 ± 3 (95 %CL). And ranking at 253 in the alt list has the chance moving to the QD in the *end.

The Australian Open Quali Cutoff ranking could be evaluated by the formula

Qcutoff = #MD + #QD - #Qualifier - #QWC

with the assumption that

a) no. of injury/illness/pregnancy/retirement/banned etc. = no. of protect rankings
b) All MDWCs are eligible in Q draw.

For the 2019 AO
Qcutoff = 128 + 128 - 16 - 9 = 231

For the AO 2018 and before
Qcutoff = 128 + 96 - 12 - 8 = 204

Checking the cuoff history
