Do we know what country he was from?

I recalled a Corinne Gould and hoped it might be her, but this person (the 1920 US Clay Court winner) md a Mr Chamberlain.

Corinne was the clay court women't singles tennis champion in 1920. Displaying a speedy forehand chop, she had not lost a tennis match since 1916.

Mrs Thomas, born Gould, was from New York.

In the meantime, you have made a good catch about Corinne Gould!

she is daughter of Ethel "Toodles" , that played in the late 1940s to the mid 1950s, and died circa 2010.

We don't still know the maiden name of Ethel "Toodles" , and I am uncertain because in our "1954 thread" there is, in the Doubles of South African Championship, an Eileen Prescott Watermeyer. Ethel and Eileen were the same person?
